I liked how this beer poured, almost as dark as a stout. However, when I tasted it, I was surprised to find a much lighter mouth feel than I expected. Not as strong a flavor as I would’ve liked, but an excellent darker beer.

Poured from 12 oz bottle. Med brown transluscent color. Decent foamy offwhite, tumbleweed white head. Aroma is faint, some hint at molasis and honey but then tartness. Taste is slight burnt toast malt. Watery. Day one of Ben out of Oregon. 5.25 bd.

12oz Bottle at the Public House inside the Venetian, Las Vegas on 4th July 2014. Slight haze to my brew, no head but very ’fizzy’. I thought this strange and almost interesting, it seemed to have a sour initial taste that became caramel sweet in the finish. My first US brewed black lager (I think).

Bottle. Pleasant aroma. Sweet and slightly roasted, probably ok but i find this style somewhat boring.

The pour produces a light tan head of good size that slowly fades to much thinner covering. Lacing is slick and spotty. Underneath the head is a very dark amber liquid with reddish highlights and decent clarity. Its aroma is malty and sweet, candy like and a little roasted. Hops add a touch of floral and light citrus perfume like notes. The flavor is sweet, malty, and bready with a light touch of caramel and a very slight hint of coffee like bitterness. There are also some nice mild roasted notes and well balanced hop flavor. The finish has more roasted notes and hop bitterness fading off the tongue. The texture is slightly thin and very drinkable with aggressive carbonation that has a little bite.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2014 Bottle: Muddled brown, very light ruby tone with a thin, khaki film that recedes quickly to just a collar. Aroma with metallic tones, sweet toffee, hint of toasted bread, maybe some faint skunk... Very mild & unexciting. Mostly metallic caramel/toffee. Lots of sweet honey in the taste, caramunich malts, toffee candy, a touch of dry roast & some sweet prunes linger. Again, a little metallic note, a bit thin. Some lightly spicy, almost Saaz-like hops join the party late but this is mostly sweet. Not undrinkable but pretty damn mediocre. A stronger aroma & the absence of metal would do this beer well.

Bottled at Cajun Queen in Charlotte. Pours a brown color with white head. Nutty, malty, toast aromas. Nutty, biscuit, light brown sugar flavors.

Bottle from trade, thanks Bert! This beer is not black, and it’s not smoky. It pours amber with and off white head. Aroma is caramel, brown bread, slight fruit esters. Flavor is kind of flat, caramel, prune, some dry oaky bitterness in the finish, but not enough to balance.

I’ve had Dixie Voodoo many times over many years. One of my favorite dark beers. Good depth of flavor with an enjoyable finish. I feel like I’ve had a real beer after having 1 or 2! Very good beer overall and I highly rate this one.

12oz bottle (Old Notes)-Pours brown with a small tan head. Aroma and taste of malt and caramel. This light bodied brew was pretty light for a Schwarz and it did nothing for me.

Mediocre. I didn’t think this beer was anything special. Light, crisp, and a bit malty without any outstanding flavors.
