donteatpoop (112), Youngstown, Ohio, USA Apr 11, 2008 Poured a very dark amber, I thought it was brown at first... Thin off-white head with a bit of lace clinging to the sides of the glass as I drank.
The smell was god-awful. I know it was just toasted malts, but I think those malts were over-toassted; I could have sworn my wife was burning hair or something. But no, it was just the beer.
After smelling it I almost backed out. Glad I didn’t. Really great beer, the toasted malts was not so unpleasant on the tongue as it was on the nose. I didn’t taste the touch of "magical New Orleans Spirit" that the bottle suggested, unless they weren’t being literal; but it was a pleasant taste that left me satisfied.
Balanced carbonation level with no unpleasant aftertaste. Definately a drinkable beer, I could easily see myself purchasing and drinking this again.

dkachur (641), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jul 26, 2008 12 oz. bottle from Greenwood Gourmet Grocery near Crozet, VA. Coffee brown pour with a persistent one finger head. Roasted, nutty malt aroma with some tea-like characteristics. Nutty, roasted malt taste with caramel and tropical fruit notes. Thin body. phishpond417 (1162), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jul 20, 2008 Pours a dark reddish colour with a full tan head. A little muddy, aromas of roasted malts and walnuts. soft coffee and carmel character. otherwise smooth and rich flavors. Strykzone (880), Wood River, Illinois, USA Jul 19, 2008 A nice pour into a fluted glass. Good looking tan head with plenty of active carbonation. Amber color beer. A musty malty aroma is joined by a bit of hop. Flavor is roasted and unroasted malt with some yeast. A bit of anise. Very thin feel. Not one to become a staple, but an interesting beer. Ethereal (724), London, Greater London, England Jul 12, 2008 Bottle, at home with renffisch, 25th June 2008. Dark brown with little head, this has a somewhat interesting aroma of manila envelope and some blackcurrant! Tastes like a bland, sweet lager with little weight and a weak finish. Avoid. I should point out that this bottled was marked as being brewed in the EU. renffisch (384), london, Greater London, England Jul 7, 2008 bottle with ethereal. pours a dead brown with a fluffy tan rim. Smells odd, not sure quite of what, plastic came to mind. Tastes awfully of sweet cardboard, metal, mushrooms and godknowswhat. this is utter rubbish.
