sayravai (3045), Helsinki, Finland Jul 12, 2008 (Bottled) Almost black with a smallish, beige head. Very original aroma, a bit like "tilliliha" (could ir be diacetyl?) - also sourish and salty. Smooth, roasty, licoricey, tarry, very salty and pleasant flavor. Alcohol well hidden. Full-bodied, very silky-smooth palate. An interesting, silky, truly great Imperial Stout. Might be even too salty in larger doses, though.
Grovlam (2997), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 24, 2008 Bottle. Huge thick creamy brown head that really lasted. Excellent display of lacework. Pitch black color. A complex mixture of burned, sweet, smoked and bitter notes hits nose. Also liquorish, berries, vinous, burned malt, underlying floral and pin notes as well with a bit of coffee and bitter chocolate. Full bodied with an average carbonation and thick alcoholic and oily texture. Heavy sweet and bitter flavor in balance. Lingering English liquorish finish. Jukkabro (2350), Tampere, Finland Aug 17, 2008 Black colored with huge beige head. Salty and licoricy aroma with vinous-smoky touch and some caramelly roastiness. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is, after salty aroma, more sweet and roasted with caramel and coffee. Aftertaste is slighly alcoholic with roastiness and salt still. Again interesting, as I said salty brew from djavle. Madsnp (112), Odense C, Denmark Aug 14, 2008 Bottle. Black with a brown and frothy head. Aromas of caramel, sugar, hard roasted coffee, chocolate, soy sauce and smoke. Flavours of licorice, sugar and espresso. Full bodied and evil, this is great stuff! BeerBiker (1172), Odense, Denmark Aug 14, 2008 [Sampled at DØE-festival with Helga, Søren and Anne, Århus 2008.] A very great beer with black look and brown head. Notes of great roasted malts, smoke, wood, coffee, some chocs. Dryness and vanilla also. Good finish and a big wish for more. Svesse (1676), Hässelby, Sweden Aug 3, 2008 (Draught at Ölbaren, Copenhagen, 24 July 2008) Black colour with firm, creamy, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with sweet espresso, salty liquorice, soy sauce and tar. Malty, roasted taste with notes of liquorice, sweet and strong espresso and soy sauce. Full bodied, powerful, fairly sweet and with a distinct cocoa bitterness. Sheer power and elegance combined. Another one, please!
