COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Previously brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

Danish: Bryggeriet Djævlebryg and the Danish Atheist Society have entered into an unholy alliance and the result is "Godless": This first batch is a somehow accessible imperial stout with its 8.9% abv. It offers burnt notes from the malt mingled with sweet nuances and a warming depth from the alcohol. This brew is primarly aimed at members of the Atheist Society, but it will also be available in selected shops and bars. In these times, when companies are expected to show social responsibility, we in the brewery have decided to follow suit: For each bottle or draft sold we donate 1 Danish Krone to the Danish Atheist Society.

Noix de coco, mélasse, chocolat au lait, malts rôtis, légères notes de tabac dans un corps sirupeux avec une effervescence adéquate. La fin de bouche à l’empreinte des houblons floraux et de la torréfaction.

Draft at Eulogy in Philly. Opaque brown black. Tap was pulling a lot of tan foam from the keg. Big malty notes. Some sweetness definitely but well balanced with a charcoal bitterness. Heady alcohol off the top. Dark chocolate. Coffee grounds. Asphalt. Tailpipe. Leather. Crispy burned campfire marshmallows. Delicious! Medium body reads just a bit thin to hold such dark notes. There is no god :p

Pours opaque black with a thick long lasting head. Good lacings. Chocolate, a little woody, and a touch of vanilla. Full body has some burnt bitterness and leftover ash flavor. Good balance of sweetness and dryness. Still doesn’t want me to become an Atheist.

Strong smell and taste. Even strong aftertaste, a little dry and the coffee flavor. Perhaps one of the tastiest beers I’ve tried. But what scares me is the price of 54 SEK ($ 8) This beer was not easy to come in. Luckily, I had to buy this beer from a friend. Danes will not let this beer to Sweden, barely.

Bottle. Tried this due to the name, probably like many other people. Dark brown, almost black pour, with a large tan head. Heavy roast, moderate sweetness, molasses, burnt sugars, bitterness from the roast, and notes of chocolate. A stout with emphasis on roast and sweetness. Which is okay, but this beer is nothing special

Only bought because of the awesome name, but it was accually suprisingly good. Aroma of coffee, grass, spruce and some chocolate. The taste is quite similar, but also some dough here. Overall a well above avarage stout.

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2012 Re-rating - better nose and taste this time. Both up to 8! Previous rating 06/07/12 7+4+7+4+16=3.8 50cl bottle thanks to onkelgobber. Opaque black with a thick crema head. The nose has liquorice but more black chocolate really. This is against a lovely earthy background profile. The taste is not much chocolate, but rather liquorice, malt bread, earthiness with a charcoal note at the finish. This is close to full bodied with a creamy texture and a bitter malt finish which actually brings subsequent balance to the experience.

Pours a deep dark black color with aroma of wood and malt. Taste has a bite of alcohol with an aftertaste of burnt malt. Almost a roasted malt flavor throughout the beer.

At The Festival. Dark black body, with a medium brown head. Nose is full of roasted malts, cocoa, dark fruits, caramel, and some charredd coffee. Taste is similar, with a nice depth and range of flavors. Medium to full bodied, appropriate carbonation, dry, lightly bitter finish.
