4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Brasserie V on my 33rd birthday. Black body with a nice beige head. Roasty chocolate aroma, quite nice again. What an awesome Imperial Stout. Creamy and rich, but perfectly executed and balanced. Roasty, smoky, sweet malt tones. Big smoky tones, really comes out the more it approaches room temp. Some green hoppiness, but covered up by the rich malt bill. Some vanilla in there as well, which just helps to accentuate the chocolate. World Class, awesome beer. Semi sweet bitter chocolate finish.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2010 vintage. Pours deep brown with a fluffy tan head. The aroma is interesting, it lacks the typical roastiness of an imperial stout and tends more toward deep chocolate breadiness. Sweet and cakey, gingerbread, cocoa. The flavor has all the same notes but adds a splash of cappuccino in at the finish, contributing a creamy mouthfeel and a lingering dry roastiness. Low carbonation and a dense palate work well with a modest ABV. Pretty nice stuff.

On tap at Frisco Tap House & Brewery in Columbia, MD.
Opaque, near black with a light tan head and good lacing.
Aroma molasses, roasted malt, chocolate and licorice.
Taste of licorice, roasted malt, molasses, chocolate and some nice earthy hops hiding behind all that dark malt.
Medium body and medium/low carbonization.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a two finger tan head that fades very slowly leaving a good lace. Black color, no highlights, ton of yeast left in bottle. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Chocolate nose and flavor is sweet and bitter chocolate, higher ABV is hidden. Pricey at $10.99 for a 500ml bottle from Julio’s Liquors Marlboro, MA.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Sidder længe i mundvigen. Kraftig alkoholstyrke i smagsbilledet.

How can one deny god yet swear by the devil? Getting alot of dark roast coffee and bitter chocolate in the nose. Jet black with a retained tan head, looks pretty active under the murk. Very hearty, roasted chocolate malt flavor, and probably a hoppy 70 IBU or more. Thick yet decidedly crisp. Doesn’t seem overtly strong, although you will notice it’s kick. Evil and good all together. Amen brothers and sisters!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is fairly malty, full of roast and dark chocolate. Light licorice with moderate raisin and light prune and plum. Surprisingly sweet chocolate notes as the beer warms.
Pours black as an atheist’s soul with a small dark mocha head that recedes quickly to the edges with a faint film in the middle. Very faint lacing with medium legs.
Flavor starts instantly sweet, but that quickly recedes. Light roast with moderate chocolate of varying degrees of darkness. Moderate raisin with lighter prune and anise. Medium bitterness helps cut through the sweetness. Some astringency.
Mouthfeel is fairly full bodied with medium low carbonation. Medium low, but noticeable astringency. Medium low alcohol warmth. Fairly sticky sweet.
Overall an acceptable beer that hasn’t been hurt from the 2 years it spent buried in my cellar. Nicely balanced malt character with decent fruit and anise. Astringency is a touch too strong. A bit too sticky for my preferences.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours very dark brown with a tan head. The aroma has dark fruits, berries, roast, licorice, cream and figs - lot going on here. It has a medium / thick body with some roughness and moderate carbonation. The flavor starts off with licorice, soy sauce, roast, some char, bits of cream and raisins. The finish is a bit messy with some char, spice, dates and cream. It’s good, but would probably be better fresher than what I tried.
