3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Rastacouere (6041) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 6, 2007
Sweetish spice mix and medium bodied ale. Good-looking, clean and clear light copper covered by a large and lasting head. Phenolic yeastiness reminiscent of weizens, grainy, subtle numerous spices. I presume this contains nutmeg, ginger and anise or something, but they are tough to tell apart. Medium-full bodied, engaging carbonation. A fun experiment that indeed has a mystic, mysterious something about it.

(on tap) Spicy, liqourice and fennel, also more dirt-like in anis. Golden red, white head. Good carbonation level, plays along nitely with the powerfull herbs. Actually the carbonation carries a quite sweet beer nicely through, makes it light a very drinkable.

50 cL bottle. Pours golden orange to amber, almost clear, with a light yellowish head. Complex spice aroma, label says 6 spices, I think I can sense annis seed, cardemomme, ginger, cloves, cinnemon and something extra I cannot make out what is. Flavour continues at the same pathway giving some more power to the individual spices. Underneath is a soft malt base, medium sweet to dry. Finish has a mild bitterness but is dominanted by the spices. Not my style of brew but certainly well crafted and somewhat unique. Well done.

Copper, nice off-white cap of foam. Unique aroma I can’t place. Henrik suggests juniper, which seems reasonable. Maybe some kind of herbal tea. Cola sweetness, pepperment. Kind of sweet. While this seems like a beer made with purpose, it’s seems an obscure purpose that is lost on this taster.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 henrikb (1257) - Aarhus, DENMARK - SEP 15, 2007
Draft - Dark red amber body, VERY creamy beige head; Very fruity spicy nose, deep but not really fitting (to a beer); Soft texture and carbonation, slightly sweet and juniper harsh; Juniper aroma in finish mixed with some malty sweetness. Strange and not at all my kind of beer.

(Draught at Plan B, Copenhagen, 3 Aug 2007) Dark amber colour with frothy beige head. Malty, spicy nose with lots of spices, liquorice and something bittersweet (sweet gale, sloe, juniper?). Malty, spicy taste with dark fruit, liquorice and ... sweet gale? Rather sweet. The spices get a bit overpowering, but i can’t help liking it. Strange but nice.

A special beer. really spicy, lot of herbs. Reminds you almost of Christmas glögg or mulled wine. Somehow bittersweet and sour at the same time. Nice dark amber colour.
