COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Previously brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

English: Mystikale is a top-fermented red-brown beer inspired by Sottish as well as Danish brewing traditions. Mystikale is brewed with 6 different spices, among others liqourice root and hip shell, which give the beer a complex and intriguing taste. Mystikale goes very well with traditional Danish lunch and spiced poultry dishes.

Very nice flavour, looks great. Hard to guess the spices. A bit of perfume aroma but definitely not in a bad way.

Draught at EBF 2008, Copenhagen. Deep orange to russet colouration with some lacing. You certainly pick up several of the six spices on the nose and the liquorice root comes through in a wonderfully restrained way in the flavour. The alcohol is extremely well hidden making this a complex but drinkable beer. It is subtle yet sessionable. A great mix of spicy/herbal flavours.

Bottle bought at Bröckhouse. Dark red-brown colour with a nive long lasting off-white cramy and bubbly head. Very sweet and caramellic, fruity, quite spicy aroma with cinnamon. Flavour is smooth, sweet, malty and hoppy with spices, roasted caramel, cardamum and cinnamon, touch of liquorice. Long dry, sweet and fruity aftertaste.

Great spice ale, tastes like spices. Reminds me of a slightly less dominant version of Esrum Kloster by Brøckhouse

50cl bottle from Barley Wine. It poured an amber colour with a big creamy off-white head that settled down fast in the glass. The aroma is sweet and alluring and smells of spices, hops, caramel and some liquorice. A very nice start indeed. The flavour is a bit of a let-down after the aroma. Notes of caramel and spices, some weak notes of hops and malts. A bit watery. It has a short, but lingering aftertaste.

500. Thanks, Christian! It was great to meet you, and great to get to try these. Pours a murky, somewhat grainy ebony with a dense and creamy dun-colored head. Big bouquet of deep dark spice on the nose--probably cardamom, coriander, and a few other things in there, but combined with the licorice the overall effect is like a big swatch of juniper. Creamy, slightly grainy medium body with nice lively carb. You can almost feel the spice--it’s sharp and tingly, to be sure, but the graininess of the body plays tricks on your mind. All the dark baking spices return from the nose to create a strong juniper effect again. Still, as powerful and singular as that flavor is, it’s very easily drinkable, you can really put it down. Lingering spicy finish.

Complex nose with notes of berries and fruit along with a whiff of cracked grains. Lovely deep auburn color and low head. Syrupy sweetness is balanced by a nutty middle and then a dry woody end. Some hops, but subdued and well blended. There is a light whiff of alcohol in the nose after the swallow, though not strong or overpowering. Well done. Thanks for this, Eric!

Bottle 0.5 l. Bought Humletorvet Slagelse. Colour golden amber with small beige head. Strong spicy aroma -almost like cough syrup. Taste also very spicy - I can’t believe that it contains some formalin, but you never know with Djævlebryg. Carbonation is soft and mouthfeel allright. Quite interestng mixture og spices.
