COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Previously brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

English: Mystikale is a top-fermented red-brown beer inspired by Sottish as well as Danish brewing traditions. Mystikale is brewed with 6 different spices, among others liqourice root and hip shell, which give the beer a complex and intriguing taste. Mystikale goes very well with traditional Danish lunch and spiced poultry dishes.

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2010 Amber color with a small and beige head. It is low carbonated. Taste has notes of caramel, and then the spices. Its very complex and hard to point out the spices being used, i can taste anis, and a hint of sour fruit. It could use some more carbonation, apart from that, its a very nice beer, specially if you like beers spiced with more than just hops.

Bottle from my Secret Santa, best before 09/25/09. Pours a cloudy brown with a thick light tan head. Aroma of spices: water chestnut, vegetable stew. Flavor is more spicy with lots of vegetables and sweet malt. Perhaps some mint leaves. Sweetness balances out the vegetabley spices (although maybe a little too sweet). I liked it though. 8/4/7/4/14 (3.7/5)

Bottle 0.5 l. Bought Humletorvet Slagelse. Colour golden amber with small beige head. Strong spicy aroma -almost like cough syrup. Taste also very spicy - I can’t believe that it contains some formalin, but you never know with Djævlebryg. Carbonation is soft and mouthfeel allright. Quite interestng mixture og spices.

Sweet herby caramel taste. Not to high on alchohol. Nice drinkability factor. Typical danish style ale.

Bottle: Poured an hazy amber color with a medium size foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of light sweet malt with some weird spices mix that does work well together. Taste is dominated by a huge malt backbone with great notes of spices and ester. Definitely not common but interesting take with that spice mix. Body is full with limited filtration and creamy texture with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol.

(Bottled) Slightly hazy red-amber with a small head. Nicely spicy (cardamom mostly), caramely aroma. Sweetish-caramely aroma, quite sahti-like and mellow-spicy. Medium-bodied, medium viscosity, low carbonation. An enjoyable, sahti-like, spiced ale. Only the lack of "sahti-roughness" separates this from the Finnish traditional drink. Nice!

220ml on tap at Lord Nelson, Copenhagen. Aroma of dark fruits and spicies. Beige head over a slightly unclear, red-brown body. Interesting flavour with a lots of spiciness. Cinnamon and liquorice can be detected supported by herbs and a well balanced bitterness in the ending (thanks to Hildigöltur for the recommondation, 12.01.2007).
