COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Previously brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

English: Mystikale is a top-fermented red-brown beer inspired by Sottish as well as Danish brewing traditions. Mystikale is brewed with 6 different spices, among others liqourice root and hip shell, which give the beer a complex and intriguing taste. Mystikale goes very well with traditional Danish lunch and spiced poultry dishes.

Draught at Ølbutikken, 1 Dec. Colour was very muddy and dark brown like, with a creamy off-white head. Aroma was very spice and pleasant. Smooth mouth feel with notes of Star Anise and liquorice root as some of the six spice ingredients. The combined spices gave me an experience of chewing gum essence, but in a nice way. Very refreshing and mild and pleasant sweet. Medium bodied with a sweet spicy finish. Very drinkable beer I must say.

Dark amber color with a average size beige head. Sweet and all to spicy aroma and taste. All too spicy/special for my taste.

Bottle, 50 cl: Unclear red amber beer with a frothy slowly dimishing off-white head. Aroma is malty and spicey with notes of caramel, licorice, rosemary, lavender and pine. Flavor is moderate sweet and slightly bitter. Spicey yet smooth. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is (too) soft. Not my favorite kinda beer, but a nice flavorful, dry, rather long lasting finish.

Unclear reddish brown with an off-white head. Aroma is malty, caramel and very spicy - ginger and cinnamon. Flavor is rather sweet and light bitter. Sweet and spicy finish. Too sweet and spicy to be really good, but it’s an ok beer. 250309

Cloudy brown pour with a thin offwhite head. Strong aroma of spices, including oregano, with some sweetness. The flavor is mostly spicy (again, oregano) and sweet. The body is light to medium with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Interesting, but it’s not a beer I would try again.

Short-lived small mango-yellow head over red-brown beer. Very spiced nose, only cloves, maybe cinnamon recognisable, cacao powder. Dry-bitterish, again very spiced flavour, mulled wine herbs. Impression of sweetness, but again as if from spices as liquorice or ripe banana, rather than sugar or malt. There seems to be some acidity hidden beneath. Medium bodied, seems to be thinned as the acids, medium carbonated. End of bottle is solid yeast. It doesn’t get really further than the spices. Balance is OK within the spices, but not really within the beer.
