COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Previously brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

English: Old Mephisto is a big beer: Full, warming and intense. Old Mephisto offers balanced sweetness, roasted caramel and a rounded bitterness - all held together by the vinous character. The inviting brandy coloured Old Mephisto can be enjoyed with strong cheeses, full game dishes or on its own.

100ml on tap at the Copenhagen Beer Festival 09. Very inviting cognac look, deep dark amber body with patchworks on the surface. Malty sweetness lies at the heart of the aroma. Caramel maltiness in flavour. Full bodied with warming alcohol. Ale cosiness in every sip (16.05.2009).

500 ml bottle. Brown and hazy. Medium-sized off-white head. Light nutty and caramelly aroma. Somewhat sharp flavour with strong and sharp hop flavours. This mixed with a slightly burnt caramelly sweetness. Given the sweet caramel the body is surprisingly thin. I like the caramel, but I feel that the beer would have been a lot more enjoyable if the body had not been more substantial. For a European barley wine this is quite nice, but as mention a little thin.

Ethereal (2417) - Los Angeles, California, USA - DEC 17, 2008
Draught at EBF 2008, Copenhagen. Clear deep orange with a not-over-the-top sweet dried apricot fruity nose. On the tongue it is soft and sweet but with a great minty herbal flavour to set it apart and then a hot alcohol rush at the swallow. However, even then it does not taste 10.5% and is very drinkable.
