COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Previously brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

English: Old Mephisto is a big beer: Full, warming and intense. Old Mephisto offers balanced sweetness, roasted caramel and a rounded bitterness - all held together by the vinous character. The inviting brandy coloured Old Mephisto can be enjoyed with strong cheeses, full game dishes or on its own.

Bottle. Aroma of caramel, molasses, dried orange-red fruits. Flavor is sweet with these fruit notes and hints at richer molasses/toffee flavors. Pretty basic.

Bottle thanks to my Secret Santa. Pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma of raisin and sweet malt. Flavor of super sweet caramel malt and some raisin. Very sweet. Your typical barleywine here. Meh. 6/4/6/4/13 (3.3/5)

A nice looking red-brown beer with a small tan head. Aroma is roasty malt, with some sweetness and nutiness. The flavor is sweet caramel malts, molasses, and dried fruit. Deliciously syrupy mouthfeel. Decent, but not the best BW i’ve had.

A good, not great barleywine, lacking in hops for my taste. Good sweet taste, covering the alcohol

100ml on tap at the Copenhagen Beer Festival 09. Very inviting cognac look, deep dark amber body with patchworks on the surface. Malty sweetness lies at the heart of the aroma. Caramel maltiness in flavour. Full bodied with warming alcohol. Ale cosiness in every sip (16.05.2009).

On tap at Copenhagen beer festival. Poured a cloudy dark brown with a brown head. Aroma was bitter with sweet caramel notes. Flavor is quite sweet from the caramel and enjoyable.

500 ml bottle. Brown and hazy. Medium-sized off-white head. Light nutty and caramelly aroma. Somewhat sharp flavour with strong and sharp hop flavours. This mixed with a slightly burnt caramelly sweetness. Given the sweet caramel the body is surprisingly thin. I like the caramel, but I feel that the beer would have been a lot more enjoyable if the body had not been more substantial. For a European barley wine this is quite nice, but as mention a little thin.
