COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Previously brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

English: Old Mephisto is a big beer: Full, warming and intense. Old Mephisto offers balanced sweetness, roasted caramel and a rounded bitterness - all held together by the vinous character. The inviting brandy coloured Old Mephisto can be enjoyed with strong cheeses, full game dishes or on its own.

Pours a deep amber colour, cloudy, with a small tan head. Aroma is full of caramel malt and some slight floral hop scents. Taste is quite sweet with a nice bitterness to it as well. Full bodied, smooth and creamy mouth feel and livelier carbonation. Overall a solid barley wine.

50 cl bottle kindly shared by Sigmund. Inch thick cappucino colored creamy head that cover a misty deep orange body. Malty sweet, floral honey notes on the nose. Pungent sweet and malty flavors with a mellow bitterness. Slightly overcarbonated, although it suits the beer. Full bodied. Worked well with blue cheese.

Smells of lovley dark dried fruits, looks amazing, dark and golden, light cream head. Taste is baked plums raisins and a bit of leather? I'm in love with a barley wine, who would have thought that ;) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I agree with the general assessment of this beer. I don’t think it’s really a good example of the prototypical style of English Bitter or Barley Wine. Whatever you want to call it though, it’s one of the best I’ve ever had! This is what I want out of a cold weather beer. Strong, malty, deep, not too bitter. Beautiful aromas of brown butter and caramel and the taste is fantastically balanced. It might not fit neatly into any category, but you need to be drinking this. I am continually impressed by this brewery.

Copper with thin white head. Fruity, earthy, musky, apples, mild tartness. Dry on the finish. Fairly musky overall.

Bottle (500 ml). Traded by SlovakSniper, thanks Patrick! Dark amber with a small off-white head and little lacing. Aroma is dominated by malt with caramel, brown sugar, wood and slight bitterness. Taste is sweet (almost cloying) and also dominated by malt with caramel, brown sugar, slight smoked malt and slight bitterness. Mouthfeel is slightly vinous. Medium body. In my opinion, this is an average Barley Wine that could benefit from aging (hopefully, it will be more balanced and less sweet with some age).

TEJA (1372) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - DEC 12, 2012
Draught at Stockholm beer and whiskey festival 2011. The best of their beer at the festival. The barley aged from 2008. Thick beige head. Bright red color. Huge madrefication and much bensaldehyde / marsipan. Sweet caraqmell taste and a medium/ balanced bitterness. A crowd pleaser any winter.

Bottle. Dark brown with a thick foamy off-white head. Aroma is dark caramel with biscuits, raisins and citrusy hops. Flavor is toffee, biscuits, caramel, toasted malts, resiny hops and warm alcohol. Full body with a slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Very good barley wine.
