English: Old Mephisto is a big beer: Full, warming and intense. Old Mephisto offers balanced sweetness, roasted caramel and a rounded bitterness - all held together by the vinous character. The inviting brandy coloured Old Mephisto can be enjoyed with strong cheeses, full game dishes or on its own.

Bottle from someone. Pours light colored orange with a large white head. Rocky. Laces well. Taste is sugary sweet with a moderate bitterness. Light choco as it warms. A light alcohol.

Flaska från SB, några år på lagring. Smak och doft av karamell, marsipan brunt socker, honung, citrus, torkad frukt. Lagom sötma, fin beska, välbalanserad. Mycket gott.

Bottle from Plovmand, thanks! Lots of red fruit, bordering on Haribo gumbears, very sweet, very caramelly, with a weird metallic note. It’s so sweet, it makes your teeth hide inside your gum, and your tongue roll together. The second problem I have with this beer is the overabundance of alcohol. This beer makes a raw impression, as if it wasn’t conditioned for the right amount of time. And this sweetness and this alcohol dampen all the flavour there is. Unfortunately, again.

Aroma is yeast, dark fruit, candy sugar and lightly roasted malts. Taste is sweet malts a sweet plum, apple and candy sugar. A nice bitterness follows that is balanced nicely. Appearance is an amber/orange cloudy body with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.

Rikigt gott

Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Tan head with excellent retention recedes leaving no lacing. Sweet caramel and resin aromas. Thick with dark caramel and toffee upfront turning to deep resin in the lasting finish. Alcohol well hidden.

Svesse (6716) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - OCT 31, 2014
(Bottle) Hazy amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit, caramel, candy sugar, syrup, honey and dried apricots. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, dried fruit, apricots, papaya, treacle, honey and a fiery finish with a generous resinous bitterness. Almost full body, quite sweet. Possibly a touch too sweet, with a fair amount of alcohol shining through, but the chewy texture and generous bitterness holds it together well. Not exceptionally balanced, but a well made barley wine. Very nice.

"deep fruits, caramel, plum. little hop presence. masks the abv quite well. low carbonation, and a bit thick, making it a decent sipper. i liked it, bit wasn’t blown away, though another friend thought it was the best of the night."
