3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 thebeertourist (4060) - Oslo, - AUG 30, 2009
Bottle from Gammel strand. Dark ruby red with a stable, little head. Raisins and nutty aroma with some vinous notes. Good dry nutty flavours balancing raisins, some roast. Very bock-like, but still highly likeable, if not extremely complex.

Sample at Ølfestival 2012. Hazy amber colour with little head. Taste and aroma are big on toffee, with a deep hit of winter berries and dark fruit to complement it. Alcohol is noticable but this goes down pretty smooth. I was sufficiently impressed.

50cl bottle: Pours a slightly murky dark mahogany with a thin-lacing covering of light tan head. Has a sweet, lightly-oxidized caramel malty nose with some sherry character and citrus hoppy notes. Starts with pretty good fullness and chewy dark caramel sweetness with some light fruity complexity and good hop bitterness before a drier bittersweet, slightly warming finish. An enjoyable American-style barley wine.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 MotherBrother (298) - Aalborg, DENMARK - APR 11, 2012
Pour dark, deep ruby red, with a small creamy off-white head.
Aroma of plums, dates, malts, caramel, toffee, portwine notes ans slight oaky notes. Slightly hoppy towards the end.
Taste is sweet, with a slight bitter finish, from both the hops and the wood.
Medium body, with a medium oily texture, and average carb.
3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Cirrhosis (932) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 29, 2012
Ruby red brown with a thin skiff floating on top. Yum yum yum aroma. Medical cherry, spice, dark oak, sweet heavy plumb, vanilla, and mild hints of pennies. This aroma is exactly what I was craving tonight. So much CHERRY in the nose. Taste is good but not as massive as the aroma. Bitter wood, more medical cherry, earth, more stuff. Soft mouth feel with tingly carbonation. The 10.5% is noticeable but is balanced perfect with the body of the beer. The bitter is really coming to the front of the flavour now. This is exactly what I look for in a B-Wine, thick flavour, sweet with a bitter edge, cheery, and a oaky malt. Perfect for me it is but there are better out there. SPICE! This beer hit the spot.

Bouteille de 500ml. Merci Patrick.

Bottle from Systembolaget, Stockholm, Sweden. Malty sweet aroma with some grassy notes from the hops. Taste is bitter and rich, stays in the mouth long after the first sip, awesome. Texture is oily and smooth, feels thick. Great barley wine.
