COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

Brewers note: This beer is NOT brewed as an American Pale Ale. It is not brewed to suit a certain style which is why we call it a "hoppy ale".

English: Both the British and Americans are good at using hops - in slightly different ways. We have combined the best from both traditions and created Schopenhauers Vilje ("Schopenhauer’s Will"), a beautiful amber coloured ale with a floral character, caramel notes and - like the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer - a good portion of bitterness. This brew can be enjoyed on a hot summer’s day, a cool evening or accompanied by e.g. poultry dishes.

(Bottled) Very hazy amber with a medium, creamy and lacy head. Strongly floral-lemony-hoppy aroma with fruity maltiness. Pale-malty, floral-hoppy flavor with a long, dry and bitter finish. Medium body with creamy mouthfeel. A nicely dry and hoppy ale. Could be a bit crispier and even drier, but very nice still.

Soft redish color. complicated spicey composistion. The long hoppey profile profile helps you find your way through this maze of spices.

Blom (831) - Odense, DENMARK - APR 8, 2008
Reddish amber with a high and dense head. Floral and fruity aroma: apple, kiwi and mandarin plus some caramel. The flavour starts out sweet with perfume notes and moves into an acceptable but not very potent bitterness. Schopenhauer would have wanted an IBU at about 1000, if it were to imitate his bitterness.

Dark orange colored with hazy appearance. Big yellow head. Rich aroma with fine hops and floral fruits, good PA aroma with even some licorice. Medium bodied. Flavor also starts with sweet caramel and some brown sugar, aftertaste turns to strongly hopped with floral yeastiness. Fine brew, maybe not fully balanced.

Bottle. Served by the brewers but was way to warm for an APA (about 18 C.) It has potential so I might rerate this one day. Amber colour. Hoppy nose and moth with some malts and spices.

Bottle. Clear, golden beer with a nice, dense, off-white head. Malty nose with sweetness and some spicyness and maybe a bit low on hoppyness. There’s something minty there as well. Quite spiced flavor too, sweet and malty and a bit low on hops and bitterness I think. At least until the finish, which is long and piney, with a little spicyness at the start. Medium to full body with a little sticky feeling. A nice beer, not the typical pale ale. (071123)
