Editor’s note: Brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

Brewers note: This beer is NOT brewed as an American Pale Ale. It is not brewed to suit a certain style which is why we call it a "hoppy ale".

English: Both the British and Americans are good at using hops - in slightly different ways. We have combined the best from both traditions and created Schopenhauers Vilje ("Schopenhauer’s Will"), a beautiful amber coloured ale with a floral character, caramel notes and - like the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer - a good portion of bitterness. This brew can be enjoyed on a hot summer’s day, a cool evening or accompanied by e.g. poultry dishes.

draught at EBF Copenhagen 2008 ... Hazy amber ... bright hop nose ... little pine ... yeasty fruity ... light and juicy ... soft mouthfeel ... but pine hop domintaed... I like this Brewery for doing quite a few different Stouts. This is ok but id rather the Son of Nekron any day of teh week.

I had been looking forward to visit Bryggeriet Djævlebryg at EBF 08, and I was not disappointed. This one had a golden brown body with a few floating patches on the surface. Dark fruits to the nose with a discreet smoky touch. Dried, dark fruits in flavour on a malty backbone. Rounded and pleasant palate. Medium bodied and refreshing (13.09.2008).

Had this at the European Beer Festival Kobenhaven 13-09-08 Another decent beer from this brewery, poured light golden in colour not much head on it but then the idiot in front of me turned around oblivious to me and walked straight into me without looking so I ended up wearing half of my beer. What beer I had left had a nice light fruitiness, good tang and I also got some spices.

courtesy of Laurent Mousson - a bit nervous at the opening, foaming out of the bottle; hazy red-orange colour under a huge pale beige foam; fairly hoppy nose showing some cream, almonds and lichies; solid malt backbone, slightly oily; a reasonable bitterness introduces a long creamy and fruity quite soft aftertaste

Amber-copper beer; good but vanishing cream-coloured head. Beautiful grapefruit nose, sucade as well; well-balanced. Soft bittersweet taste, again sucade or preserved orange. Very slick MF, bit sticky. Very good, hoppy, and yet balanced ale.

500ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)
Deep copper, small creamy head. Sweet fruity hops on the nose. Quite lively on the tongue, needs a bit of a swirl. Decent sweet malts, prominent bitter hops, some soapiness. Leaves a tingly hoppy and slightly soapy finish. Good to the bottom of the glass, but leaves me a bit sticky and needing a drink.
