Editor’s note: Brewed by Djævlebryg at Brøckhouse, Hillerød, Denmark.

Brewers note: This beer is NOT brewed as an American Pale Ale. It is not brewed to suit a certain style which is why we call it a "hoppy ale".

English: Both the British and Americans are good at using hops - in slightly different ways. We have combined the best from both traditions and created Schopenhauers Vilje ("Schopenhauer’s Will"), a beautiful amber coloured ale with a floral character, caramel notes and - like the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer - a good portion of bitterness. This brew can be enjoyed on a hot summer’s day, a cool evening or accompanied by e.g. poultry dishes.

Bottle. Hazy mahogny with a huge head. Sweet fruity nose with caramel and plums. Toffee, candy sugar, honey, good bitterness, but slightly astringent towards the finish. Quite alright.

Bottle at EBF. Hazy copper, thick and nicely lacing pale head. Sweet molassy nose, plum, some hops and spiciness. Smooth malty flavor with nutty ice-cream and prune. Little hops in the finish. Almost full bodied, smooth carbonation. It felt more like a Belgian ale.

An amber beer with a nice hoppy kick. The aroma is quite heavy on the caramel with the hops complimenting it. The flavour is hoppy with the caramel and toffee notes in a quite apperant position. Medium bitter.

On tap at EBF 08. Amber, lasting beige head. Good hop aroma, like a good American pale ale. Good fruit, nice malts. Clean, stunningly easy to drink. Good toffee malt, good hops. Just a little more character needed.

Sampled at EBF08. Hazy amber. Small off-white head. Pretty sweet aroma with hops and pine-needles. Dry, grassy, flowery hoppiness. Fine, sweet maltiness.

draught at EBF Copenhagen 2008 ... Hazy amber ... bright hop nose ... little pine ... yeasty fruity ... light and juicy ... soft mouthfeel ... but pine hop domintaed... I like this Brewery for doing quite a few different Stouts. This is ok but id rather the Son of Nekron any day of teh week.

I had been looking forward to visit Bryggeriet Djævlebryg at EBF 08, and I was not disappointed. This one had a golden brown body with a few floating patches on the surface. Dark fruits to the nose with a discreet smoky touch. Dried, dark fruits in flavour on a malty backbone. Rounded and pleasant palate. Medium bodied and refreshing (13.09.2008).

Had this at the European Beer Festival Kobenhaven 13-09-08 Another decent beer from this brewery, poured light golden in colour not much head on it but then the idiot in front of me turned around oblivious to me and walked straight into me without looking so I ended up wearing half of my beer. What beer I had left had a nice light fruitiness, good tang and I also got some spices.
