COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
ABV 5% 25 IBU’s The flag-ship Dock Street recipe brewed fresh right here at our local brewery in West Philly. Brewed with American Cascade hops and 2-row pale and caramel malts. It is full bodied, exceptionally balanced and always admired for its clean smooth finish.

Nice aroma. Very malty, like a bock or altbier. Sweet but not overly so. Good balance of hops (sort of fruity) with brown sugar and molasses. Appearance was a big frothy off-white lacing head over clear medium amber beer. Has a medium carbonation with a medium watery body. Very palatable. Taste is a bit sweet to start with a hint of alcohol. Maltiness is strong with mild bitter kick to finish. After is light nutty bitterness and hints of sweet. Nicely balanced beer, almost reminds me of English bitter. Overall, a nice beer that I would drink every day.

Slightly hopped and malty-sweet, this is a nice, medium-bodied ale! Don't come here looking for hops, cuz they never left the brewery. Somewhat fruity and crisp. Good.

One of my favorite ambers. The color is a deep reddish amber with excellent clarity. Very appealling in a pint glass. It has a very unique refreshing taste with hops that permeate a smell and taste of mint. Not overpowering in flavor, but crisp and smooth. Very refreshing. Good with crawfish.

definitly worth the extra dough. buy the sampler pack, all dock street’s brews are outstanding; illuminator is their best.

This was the first microbrew I ever had back in 1992. A friend of mine brought a case over my apartment one night. My first thought was "What the heck is this". After the first sip though, I was hooked. Aroma is sweet and fruity. Very malty with only a wisper of hops. Hints of brown sugar, nuts and molasses but nothing dominates the overall flavor. Great session beer and a sentimental favorite of mine (and my wife's). My guess is that it has changed slightly since being picked up by Matt Brewing. It might be a little thinner than it was 10 years ago and the sugary flavors aren't as strong.

Poured from bottle 3/2008. Hop aroma greets you. Dark mahogany, thin tan head. Interesting blend of hop and roasted malt in the flavor. Creamy texture, slightly burnt something in the aftertaste, Finished nicely too. Surprisingly good.

A good amber, nice hop bite, clean and refreshing.
