COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Dock Street Barley Wine has been lovingly hand bottled straight from the barrels and bottle-conditioned by our brewers. The carbonation was left intentionally low so you can taste how it did pulled right from the cask. Dock Street Barleywine Style Ale is brewed with the best of both American and English traditions in mind. We stuff so much malt into our mash-tun, it can’t possibly hold any more. It’s hopped in the kettle with copious amounts of Brewer’s Gold and English East Kent Golding hops, to a bracing 76 IBU’s. Its massive maltiness and tremendous bitterness are partnered with the burn from its 10.5% ABV. All of these intense individual characteristics are married through extended aging at cellar temperatures. This very special batch of our immense ale has been tempered by 10 months of quiet aging in oak barrels that had previously been the home of Chadds Ford Pinot Noir wine. The result is a sensual synthesis of the worlds of beer, oak and wine. The aromatics leave the drinkers to believe that they are about to taste a port wine or brandy. The malt is the true star here, with the bitterness of the hops dying away to reveal flavors of coconut, caramel and rum. It all comes together with a slightly acidic and tannic woody finish. The initial hint of alcohol slowly fades into a warming burn.

Cloudy dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Smooth and slightly soft palate with mild fine carbonation. Intense malt with a lot of lactose. Bourbon and sweet coconut. Aniseed alcohol. Semi dry finish. Nothing subtle about this big ol’ BA Barleywine. Good though!

Bottle… This beer rocks!… Murky brown ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Great retention. An olfactory delight – caramel, brown sugar, praline, bourbon and oak. Full-bodied with a chewy mouthfeel and tender carbonation. The flavor is a terrific balance of caramel, roastiness and tannic bitterness. Finishes bittersweet with a very light acidic twang. World class bottle of beer courtesy of Beerlando!

Very thick, sweet, thick caramel malty, sticky, dark fruity, light vanilla, slight woody, toffee, port flavor with a warming, somewhat, white vinous, boozy finish.

Black Friday tasting. Quite an interesting brew. All of the normal flavors in a BW you would expect then the mix of the pinot barrels and hops...quite unique and good.

Bottle from CAH. Pours deep brown w 1f ow head. Nose is huge scottish malt, tobacco, raisin, oaky spirits, prune. Tastes very scotch malty, earthy, very oaky and cognacy, with hops, prune, and fine tobaco notes, and a very rich, very complex palate. Oaky and spirity as hell, while maintaining a good balance. This one went great with a maduro Fuente cigar and a hunk of aged cheddar.

Courtesy of beer rating maven hopdog, thanks Steve! Pours clear amber with thin tan head. The aroma is yummy with brown sugar, dates, prunes and some mild caramel notes followed by booze. The taste is similar with brown sugar coated prunes, raisins and cherries along with some rich malt sweetened pine hops off in the background. Yummy smooth stuff where all the age on it has done nothing adverse to the experience.

Pour out of bottle is dark reddish brown with thin to no white head, aroma has notes of port and wine notes, hints of dark fruit, caramel, some slight wine and oak notes as well. Thanks to Aaron for the pour! Taste has notes of wine and port notes, with big sweet cherry and dark fruit notes, hints of vanilla, finish with a hint of booze but not bad. Nice brew!
