4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 DocLock (6826) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 7, 2012Bomber from Craft. Pours oily, thick, and jet black, with minimal head. Nose is heavy rich dark malt, cacao, oaky bourbon, molasses, anise, hazelnut. Tastes thick, rich, complex, with dark malt, cacao, and anise up front, mid-palate hazelnut, prune, port and a thick complex finish. This one is great. I didn’t like it quite as much as the regular version, but enjoyed it greatly.

750mL bottle, aged in oak wine barrels. Poured deep brown with a fairly short-lived dark tan head. The aroma was delightful.. warm vinous notes, oak, and a kiss of tart cherry over warm chocolate, espresso, and vanilla bean.. peppery alcohol on the very edges of the nose.. a touch more base beer substance and this was a "10". The flavor held serve.. tangy vinous notes and oak on the tip of the tongue, with rich mocha and coconut following.. the dry, oaky edges picked up black pepper and more wine character.. finished on the tangy side with a lot of mocha, complementary wine barrel, and belly warmth. Medium-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. a tad slick on the middle.. OK feel.. very good overall.

Bottle... Pitch black ale with a small, creamy, khaki head that doesn’t stick around for long. The bouquet furnishes a medley of fudge, nuttiness and lightly acidic, vinous red wine. Full-bodied and super creamy with soft carbonation. The flavor is deeply roasted, offering loads of scorched, carbonic, charcoal-like notes. Burnt, bitter, tongue-numbing finish that dries way out.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy, about a 1 year old bottle. Pours deep, dark black with a rich chocolate head. Aroma is very big dark roasted grainy bitter chocolate malt. Flavor is a bit mellow but still intense dark roasted grain, malty, espresso and dark chocolate with a strong dark roast/chocolate bitterness, alcohol blends in well. Heavy mouthfeel with low carbonation. Overall, excellent brew!

750 ml from TheEpeeist. I have been holding this for a good long while. Opened with friends. Pours a rich blackish thicker pour, inky opaque dark qualities. A frothy brownish head sits atop, dies to a film, laces small. Aromas are rich cocoa and roasty barley. Healthy red wine barrel, oak, spirit, and vanilla. Kisses of cocoa grow as it warms, coffee, more roast, sweet caramel, molasses, and barrel kisses. A gentle spirit with kisses of dark fruit, red wine, some gentle tannin play. Initial is fuller bodied, up front offers roast and toasty, creamy sweetness, and a good kick of barrel. Cocoa, spirit, and vanilla. Gentle heat, some dark fruit, cocoa and roast, caramel. Full, sweet, and roasty. Biscuits, caramel, more fruity nose. Finish is lingering pretzels, biscuits, and coffee. Cocoa, dark but with a lean towards sweetness. Gentle barrel, roast, and a rich vanilla that starts to grow with touches of red wine tannins sticking and drying a bit. Overall, it’s a solid beer but a bit all over the place.

Pours unclear dark black in color with a dark tan head. The aroma of the Pinot Noir comes in really nicely in a winey berry way. The flavor has roasted malt notes with the pinot noir flavors blending well on top of a smooth body. The dry bite from the wine barrels is prevalent for sure with a bit of a spicy ending!
