COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This special batch of our Prince Myshkin’s Russian Imperial Stout was aged for 11 months in oak barrels that once held Pinot Noir wine. In addition to the big chocolatey espresso like flavors typically found in our stout, the time in barrels added nuanced notes of vanilla, mocha and coconut. A slight herbal hoppiness and hint of alcohol burn round out the profile of this perfect winter tipple.

750 ml from TheEpeeist. I have been holding this for a good long while. Opened with friends. Pours a rich blackish thicker pour, inky opaque dark qualities. A frothy brownish head sits atop, dies to a film, laces small. Aromas are rich cocoa and roasty barley. Healthy red wine barrel, oak, spirit, and vanilla. Kisses of cocoa grow as it warms, coffee, more roast, sweet caramel, molasses, and barrel kisses. A gentle spirit with kisses of dark fruit, red wine, some gentle tannin play. Initial is fuller bodied, up front offers roast and toasty, creamy sweetness, and a good kick of barrel. Cocoa, spirit, and vanilla. Gentle heat, some dark fruit, cocoa and roast, caramel. Full, sweet, and roasty. Biscuits, caramel, more fruity nose. Finish is lingering pretzels, biscuits, and coffee. Cocoa, dark but with a lean towards sweetness. Gentle barrel, roast, and a rich vanilla that starts to grow with touches of red wine tannins sticking and drying a bit. Overall, it’s a solid beer but a bit all over the place.

Pours unclear dark black in color with a dark tan head. The aroma of the Pinot Noir comes in really nicely in a winey berry way. The flavor has roasted malt notes with the pinot noir flavors blending well on top of a smooth body. The dry bite from the wine barrels is prevalent for sure with a bit of a spicy ending!

Bottle thanks to Dallas. Pours a black color with almost no head. A sweet oaky nose with some fruit and roast. The flavor is very good; cocoa, dry, a smooth thin palate, quite fruity perhaps from the pinot noir, no tartness, very drinkable some prunes and berries. Quite good. This is a case where a thin palate works.

Pours pitch black with ruby hues...very thin dark micha head. Aroma has oakiness and dark fruit...definitely winey. Flavor has notable dark fruity and winey pinot notes...oaky and roasty. Mouthfeel is oily and heavy and the finish is dry and oaky with dark fruit.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black body with a small espresso like creamy head that retained as a thin ring. The nose is richly malty with a slight booziness and some nice barrel notes of vanilla and charred oak. A lot of chocolate and fudge cake like sweetness also. The flavor leans heavily to the barrel influence, along with a little bit of oxidation that actually works pretty well with such a big beer like this. The aging is certainly evident. Heavily roasted and yet still sweet, the vanilla notes enhance the percieved sweetness. Not really boozy at all on the flavor, just a nice slight warmth on the finish. Nice lingering woody notes. Mouthfeel is fairly thick but not syrupy or sticky. Very soft minimal carbonation. Really coats the mouth well and leaves a super long finish. Overall, a pretty nice sipper, it never got tiring.

Bottle. Split with Vinnie, James, and Tom. Courtesy of Vinnie. Pours dark , deep opaque brown. with no lacing. Aroma of brandy, coconut, dark chocolate, soft savory cheese, and some pinot noir. Flavor is chocolate and very vinious, sour notes. Tart palate for an imperial stout. Tastes more like an Angel’s Share aged in Pinot Noir barrels. Great beer.
