Sampled at the Funky 8 - Barcade, Brooklyn, NYC. Pours cloudy, amber-orange with a moderate, foamy head. Lots of bread. Lightly boozy. Some sugars, caramel. So so.

Murky amber in color with a khaki head. Aroma of caramel, grains, soggy dirt, and earthy hops. Not one of my favorites.

Courtesy of Nate. @106 of 180. Pours murky orange with red hues, no to little head. Grass, herbs, thyme and cilantro, pepper coriander, caramel and hop flavor rather old world, grassy and piney, citrus rind, pepper, other green leave flavors. Maybe raw tee and parsley.

From bottle. Mild grainy aroma. Slight herbal-grassy hop notes. Not overly complex but a decent rustic biere de grade nose. Medium dark amber, hazy with foamy off-white lacing head. Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Starts medium dry to sweet, with grassy-herbal hop notes. A little less rich and a bit more hoppy that traditional examples I’ve had. Smooth sweet finish with mild hoppy bitterness. Muted bitter nutty after.

750ml bottle, #25 of 180. The pour gives a crystal clear, deep reddish-copper body strewn with effervescing micro-bubbles. The fizz feeds a thick, foamy, pale khaki head that deflates to a thin film with a dense edge. Varied flares of lace range from tall and skinny to short and fat. Nice looking brew. The nose is unfortunately a bit plasticy, showing the sure-fire signs of early infection. It’s not all-encompassing, as I still pick up the main theme of toasted cereal, scorched bread, and lightly glazed puffed rice, but it is obtrusive. IBUs are low, mainly lending earthen tones. The black pepper comes through slightly. I also get some metallic tones. Flavors follow suit, based in dry, toasted bread with rice cereal grain tendencies. Hops are mainly aged, dry, and peppery in nature. I get some distant, leafy tobacco notes as well. It’s actually a damn nice BdG, I only wish the plastic tones weren’t present, as young and soft as they may be. The palate is substantive, but more than sufficiently attenuated. It comes across delightfully dry and prickly, with a slightly chewy midpoint that clears out lickety-split. This could be a truly great beer, a 4.0 kind of beer, but the early infection is troubling. Sanitation folks....take it seriously.

750 ml bottle. Deep brown, seems like it should be clear from the pour. Kicks up a big head, dying with chunky lace. Nose is dough, brown sugar, bubblegum and clover. Oily, slightly sticky with a soft sparkle. Taste is sweet tea, cardamon, peach pit, sour apricot, ginger and bitter melon. Clean finish with a black pepper sting. Rustic with a twist.

From the tap poured an amber color with a fair amount of head. Spicy malty flavor with a quick finish.

egajdzis (5266) - Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 11, 2012
Brown amber color with a medium sized, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, toasted malts, caramel, dark fruits, and some yeast. Taste of caramel, light spices, toasted malts, raisins, fruit, toffee, and a dry finish.
