3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dickinsonbeer (5076) - Hoboken, USA - OCT 6, 2009
Bottles at the Philly Beer week event at GABF at the Curtis Hotel. I think Friday night? Pours a bit cloudy amber/orange with a fluffy diminshing head. Aroma is a bit yeasty and dirty but has some toast and crackers with some citrus and pine notes. Flavor is a bit yeasty, slight phenols, plastic, toast, bready, yeast particles, earthy notes, spicy hops, slight citrus,- light green tannin, and a slight resinous hop finish. Ok. Didnt really seem at all like a DIPA though.

Another outstanding double IPA I had the pleasure of tasting at Ortino’s. The one poured a dark golden color with a rich and lacing off-white head. The only trait of this beer I didn’t care for was the abrasive hop aroma and flavor. I think the varities of hops used probably contributed to this. Maybe if some different hops were used, this beer would be a knockout! However, with that said, the Hop Garden was still a very enjoyable and delicious beer. The sweet and bready malt character added a nice balace to the nose and body. The finish was fairly dry and spicy, as well.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 alobar (1962) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 7, 2011
Clear amber color with minimal head. Good lacing with aroma of pine and citrus. Flavor largely of caramel with pine and hops, but a bit weak for the style.

On tap at Tony’s Place Ivyland. I was curious to try this one, but was a little disappointed in this one. As interesting as 12 hops sounds, the mix is a little harsh on the palate. Hop bite. Aroma is a sturdy malt and hop base. Head is small and vanishes quick. Color is a pale amber. Alcohol comes through on this too.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DocLock (5971) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 18, 2010
Draft notes from Craft Ale House, 2009. Pours copper with off-white head. Complex nose and flavor of ig resiny hops with a solid caramel malt backbone, some peppery, spicy, and fruity notes as it warms. Well hidden alcohol, and a joy to drink, with each sip giving more subtle nuances. I hope they make this again in 2010.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 cprochak (581) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 6, 2009
On tap at the brewery. Pours dark hazy gold, little white frothy head. Nice pine and floral aroma. Flavor had no sweetness and then a funky sweaty bitterness. Almost tastes like columbus hops really dominate the flavor (don’t know what’s in the "garden" though). Strange aftertaste and a bit boozy for me.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 HonkeyBra (2281) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - OCT 11, 2009
Sampled at GABF. Amber pour with sticky white head. Bitter, hoppy aroma. I remember the flavor being disappointing, that the rye IPA was much better. It had a decent hop punch though. I’d give it a second shot.
