htvocal (2), Mt. Holly, New Jersey, USA does not count Apr 25, 2007 Solid double bach. Amber/Copper pour with a medium head. medium to heavy body with a really nice chocolate, malty, brown sugar taste and aroma. Not bad npdempse (932), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA Jul 23, 2002 Didn’t realize this was brewed by Poor Henry’s, a brewery that’s been out of business for a couple of years, when I bought it. The fact that it was still good is a tribute to this now-defunct brewery. Poured a nice red-brown with a small foamy off-white head. Nose is dominated by chocolate malts with a slight vinous tinge. Great chocolatey flavor, with some smoky hints. There’s a decent kick of hops in the end, which seemed a little too much for the mellow beer, but didn’t detract too much from the overall flavor. JPDIPSO (4286), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Jan 30, 2004 Dark amber color with a moderate beige head. Rich malt nose with a hint of alcohol. Thick and chewy in feel. Malt flavors with undert ones of vanilla and light fruit. This rating is from some past note and by the looks of things (last rating and reading a few reviews this one is not available anymore. I really enjoyed it when I visited Philly a few years ago. Hope to find it when I visit later this year. CJfromPhilly (66), Aston, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 21, 2007 Pours from the 12 oz. bottle an iced tea-ish brown with a small head that evaporates in no time to a moderate collar. Modest carbonation. Sweet, malty aroma with hints of honey and vanilla. Taste is sweet up front with some toffee & vanilla with a finish of dry, spicy hoppiness on the end. Slightly tingly, medium bodiied mouthfeel. Alcohol presence is pretty well hidden when cold, but becomes slighly more noticeable as it warms. The ABV is not listed, but juding by the buzz factor, i’d guess this one clocks in at about 8-9%. This is a very good beer, a pleasant after-work sipper. If you’re into doppels and you see this one, grab a sixer! quiksilverxtc99 (99), USA Feb 20, 2002 Get this beer!! very fruity and smooth, filling beer, definitly worth the extra dough. buy the sampler pack, all dock street’s brews are outstanding, though illuminator is their best.
