3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On draft at Philidelphia airport. Pours a deep amber, rocky off white head, aroma of grapefruit and floral hops, some biscuity malts there too. Good mouthfeel, not completely full and oily, but nice and spicy from the rye. Flavor is grapefruit and floral hops, very slight rye character, not quite as much as hoped for. Good bitter finish.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
APPEARANCE – nice amber color, brilliant white head which has good persistence.
NOSE – Definitely pick up rye notes, but nothing in the way of and IPA.
FLAVOR – mediocre. Some rye, some west coast style hop, but just a touch. Finally, by the end, when it’s room temperature, I get some hop.
NOTES –this beer is thoroughly OK. Not much else to be excited about.

I really like rye IPA’s, more so than normal IPA’s; I find that the character of some hops emulates the aromatic profile of caraway seed, and I love the combination of caraway and rye. The hops in this don’t have as strong a caraway quality as some IPA’s do but the resemblance is strong enough that I sense the congruence and like it. Moderately dry, medium body. Doesn’t seem overly bitter to me in spite of the high IBU rating. Three of us ordered a beer sampler at Dock Street and this was one of the ones we all wanted to drink more of.
