corby112 (267), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2008 Pours a pitch black color with tan head. Roasted coffee aroma with hints of chocolate and caramel. Flavor once again dominated by roasted coffe and balanced by chocolate and caramel notes. Bitter dry hopped finish
illinismitty (1321), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jun 24, 2008 Updated: Jun 25, 2008draft at Brewpub. Pours brown/black with a tan head. Aroma of coffee grounds. Full bodied. The flavor is dominated by coffee, with some dark chocolate accents, and little residual sweetness. Finishes bitter, roasty dry with some astringency. Decent, but heavy on the coffee. JB175 (1269), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 11, 2007 On Tap at Dock Street. Dark brown pour with a nice tan head. Aroma of solid espresso with small amounts of chocolate and roast - a real eye opener that gets your mouth watering (if you like coffee). Flavor is of smooth, well roasted coffee with some hints of roast and chocolate. Pleasant finish. I’m impressed with this one - I love coffee and am into most coffee stouts, but unlike most of the other good ones (BGB, Founder’s), this one is pretty much session strength at 5.5% ABV. Well done! bfeldmann (966), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Oct 24, 2007 KSBF07 Pour was almost black with dark head. Aroma was tons of coffee and roasted chocolate. Flavor was a lots and lots nice coffee, vanilla. Finished a nice dry, well done.
kramer17801 (1843), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 13, 2007 Many samples, KSBF 2007. Presents as a very dark brown, almost black, body under an espresso crema colored small head that had pretty good retention. The nose is just fabulous for a coffee stout, fresh roasted coffee all over the place with some roasted and chocolate malts below. The flavor is very coffee-centric as well, espresso roast in quality. Chocolate, roast, a light burnt note and a dry slightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, slightly watery in texture, not unlike actual coffee. Nice soft pleasant carbonation. Right up there with some of my favorite coffee stouts, but on a lower tier than Otto’s Sumatra or Selins Grove Grizzly. I think the guy pouring this got tired of seeing me, easily my favorite beer at the fest, not the best beer maybe, but my favorite.
