COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

From the bottle poured a very nice, golden, light amber, brew with a thick, rich head. Wonderful aromas of malt and floral hops. Full bodied with an interesting flavor mixture including malt, citrus, honey, and a nice mild hop finish. This IPA, IMO, tastes more like a Belgium ale than an IPA. Well that would be a win, win situation either way.

2014 bottle, thanks to Summer Secret Santa. Pours clear light amber with white head. Aroma: thick caramel; candied orange soaked in booze; herbal and citrus hops. Taste: sweet thick caramel syrup; giant boozy spiked fruit punch; moderately bitter; resin; so much alcohol, tastes like burning. Full body, syrupy thick texture. Overall: intense. definitely straddling that American barley wine / triple ipa line, leaning way more to the barley wine. My wife thinks this is "better than okay."

Strong candied caramel malts upfront, piney hops, citrus hops, grapefruits and some booziness; Boozy kick goes away after it warms up a bit. Heavy body but light in carbonation. Good but not for the faint of heart.

12oz bottle, not aged. Clear strong copper color, no lacing (no surprise at this ABV). Boozy but actually milder than I thought it would be for the strength, actually not too hoppy to enjoy. Well-balanced, quite a feat at these stats. Just fantastic, just strong, what a treat, not an everyday beer.

A dark golden color with a bit of white head. Smell is pungent, stinky cheese, alcohol, malt, cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, cough syrup. Taste is very sweet cough syrup with alcohol sting, caramel malt, vanilla, oak, a little smoky, hops are buried but can be detected a little in the after taste, and a little spiciness at the end as well. Not what you would expect from an IPA, very sweet and malty, more like a barleywine. Would like to taste an aged bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2014 bottle. Pours a butterscotch/copper color with only a trace of an off-white head. Aroma is lots of caramel malt and grain with a little solvent smell, presumably from the alcohol. Taste has the same with a syrupy sweetness and a little herbal bitterness. Alcohol is readily apparent but not as big as you might think for the abv. Not really like an IPA but so unique it's hArd to categorize. Full, slick, hot, mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a slightly hazy butterscotch color with a decent off white head that settles to a ring with decent lacing. Aroma is surprisingly malty and smells like wort and caramel with mild grassiness and oxidation. Taste is alcoholic with a lot of sweetness and maltiness. A rounded piney bitterness and oxidation notes. Finishes with a warming character and some mild hop pellet bitterness. Mouthfeel is slick with a medium/full body and moderate carbonation. A cross between an imperial IPA and a barleywine. Very sweet and boozy with not much bitterness. Not my thing.

Bottle (12oz): Very very strong. There is a bitterness, but he alcohol masks it. Has a creaminess to it. Not an everyday beer, but is like no other I have tried.. Bottled 3/17/14, drank 4 months later.

Pours a reddish gold straw with a lazy head and lacing to match its high ABV, the nose doesn't reveal the boldness of this hop monster to the unsuspecting. That's a big pat on the back to the brewers who tried to instep dice enough malt to make this monster approachable. Make no mistake that this hophead's delight will ruin your palate with bitterness and a high alcohol burn, but what it delivers, although technically a malted liquor (I think) still comes across as a beer. Sweet alcohol and malts are a bold balance to strong hop character, although it's hard here to divine the different variety characteristics (e.g. Pine, citrus, floral, etc.). Finish is deceptively smooth with just the burn to let you know this is no session brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This beer is definitely exotic. Wonderful sweetness but such an intense alcohol bite balanced with a really nice malt. Initial maltiness and sweetness, finished by a light fruitiness. Definitely not something I would drink often but a really good beer to try at least once.

Well it is a hard beer to get your hands, I finally got my hands on a few for $10 a piece. I have to say it is worth every cent, not only is it one of the best beers ive ever had but it is strong! I like the fact that it ages well. It is much like a cognac or brandy in my opinion with a very sweet flavor and great aftertaste
