Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

2012 vintage. Golden honey pour with a white head that dissipates quickly. Strong aroma of sweet apricot and some alcohol. Taste of sweet apricot. No alcohol taste, but a slight burn in the nose while sipping. Hard to believe you can't taste the alcohol at 18%. To me, this tastes like a cross between a IIPA and an ice wine. Very sweet and sticky. Glad I tried it, but not really my thing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I got this is december and poured it in june (12oz bottle). Amber body with white head, shows a lot of sediment and carbonation. Smells to me like the dogfish 60 malt concentrated with a somewhat heavy alcohol, not overly boozy on nose at all. The other 12% IPA i’ve had is evil twin Molotov cocktail, both brews leave me chewing on the taste afterwards. Malty sweetness dominates the dogfish head, the alcohol is well hidden but still feels like you’re drinking a cask aged beer. Strong taste but not overwhelming. Worth a try if you can split it.

Clear yellowish amber pour, slight white head. Massive hop, warm sweet malt finish that stays warm way into the finish. Unique and it works well.

This is definitely a boozy I.P.A. with a strong hop presence (with some citrus aftertaste). Light amber in color with no head and very little lacing. Smells of hops/citrus and booze. Very little to no carbonation present in the beer

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2015 Version 2014, dégustée après 1 an. Robe jaune-orangée légèrement trouble. Aucune mousse visible.

The beer pours an opaque orange color with a medium off-white head that fades somewhat quickly. The aroma blends biscuity malts, pine needles, tree sap, cedar wood, resinous hops, and earthiness. Surprisingly, I don’t smell the alcohol, which is weird given the ABV. The taste, oh goodness, the taste; it is mildly umami, mildly bitter, and a touch sour. The predominant flavor is the way cedar and pine needles smell, but there is also a nice underlying fusion of booze, lemongrass, caramel malts, and sap. The palate fuses a slightly sticky texture, medium-full body, and a soft carbonation.

While I like a double IPA every once in a while the overwhelming alcohol gets to me. This was a delight to get this on tap. A 5 ounce pour was all I needed. The hops was not so bitter and a bit of floral, not real citrus to speak of.

355ml bottle from Whole Foods - Tribeca, New York. Bottled 01/14/15. Thanks Jesse!

Deep amber colour with a big white thick head. Strong and bitter, some caramel, overdone fruits. Alcohol is well noticed but mostly as warming way, barley wine feeling. Now I have found ipa that can be called slow sipper.

Bottle thanks to bytemesis! Cheers Mike! Dark orange color with thin persistent white head. Medium thick body. Taste is high bitter and medium to high sweet. Aroma is caramel, hops, piney, pinneapple, chocolate, spicy, pepperish.

12 oz bottle, poured into a snifter. Appearance was a dark honey color with no carbonation. Aroma was honey, hops and alcohol, what a combo. Taste was of course combination of lots of hops and lots of malt. Palate was very mouth coating. Overall, this is a powerhouse beer but the ratings show that. I was blown away with how how boozy it was, but not "too" boozy. One bottle of this was all i could drink, took it slowly and enjoyed it.
