COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

On tap @ Stumbling Monk. I’ve tasted this before but never a full glass. Here we go... Pours golden amber with medium head that thins into steady laciness. Aroma is sweet caramel malt and big citrusy hop notes. Taste is thick syrupy caramel malt, balanced by sizable hop backbone - bitter pine, floral, and citrus notes. Heavy, thick mouthfeel. Kinda obvious, but the step from 90 minute to this is huge. Big, big beer. Really more of a barleywine. Quite big, but surprisingly well balanced for this abv... in fact I can’t remember anything much over 12% that was this balanced. Calling this an IPA may set expectations incorrectly...at any rate, a truly world class beer and worth seeking out.

This is an amazing beer that has alk the bests...but it is very very intense. That’s the only downside, soo intense you have to share it, but thats the fun!

Bottle. The pour is a hazy bright golden orange. The aroma is pretty interesting, lots of hops as expected, pine, a combustion of hops really. The taste is huge upfront. Super super boozy. The pine carries through the taste, very earthy. Everything I thought it would be.

Looks like an IPA with a golden appearance. Tastes like a Barleywine...this will put you on your ass.

Huge, hot boozy aroma. Syrupy malts, pine and citrus hops. Flavor follows. Tons of booze to this one, tons of hops. Very sweet malt profile. Mouthfeel is viscous and slick and the finish is long and packs more heat to it. Balance is hard to achieve with a beer like this, I get that - but this definitely falls short of the marks left by it’s younger siblings. There’s a lot of hype to this one, and availability definitely plays a part. Keep that in mind when you go hunting/trading for it. A 12 oz pour is particularly difficult to finish, so share or expect to re-cap and throw it back in the fridge like I did.

WOW. Definitely a powerful beverage. Initially tastes like the 90 minute IPA, but goes down like whiskey. Very hoppy, slight citrus. But still less intense than I expected (probably a good thing)... Much easier to drink than other beers I’ve had with a lower alcohol content and IBU (Flying Dog Double Dog comes to mind). Very good, but definitely not an everyday beer.

This is my favorite IPA. It has such a full interesting palate that you can really savor every sip. At over 15%ABV, you have to take your time with it and enjoy it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of alcohol, malts, and light citrus. Flavor of malts, dark fruit, citrus and piney hops. Flavor lingers in the mouth for a while after drinking. So well balanced.
