COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45įP, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBUís, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

Poured from bottle that I have aged for 2 years, pours amber with light tan head. Almost taste barleywine ish. Can't taste all the alcohol that's in it. Very enjoyable, but def can't drink it crazily.

Tasted at Brew Brothers on draft, tulip glass. Excellent aroma. Surprisingly smooth with an ABV near 20%. Much better than the 90 minute, but still prefer the drink ability of the 60. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared by KyotoLefty. Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA 20% a blood red malty pour. The nose is rich malty dark fruits - nice. The taste is malty sweet, a bit of citrus sweet zestiness with a crisp refreshing flavor. Very good stuff.

As should be apparent, this is one of those extreme beers that shouldn't be expected to maintain any sort of proportion in it's flavor profile - thus the Dogfish Head 120 IPA meets expectations in providing a ridiculously hoppy and high ABV brew that should be sampled as an exotic delicacy. Pours a nice shimmery copper orange color both on draft and from the bottle, but seemed unappetizingly devoid of any head or foam of any sort. Aroma of pacific hoppy resin and some malt, and a whiff of straight alcohol. Taste hits you in three stages in my experience: first the bitter resin hoppiness, then a bold caramel maltiness, and then a grainy alcoholic finish. The hoppiness was enlivening and the maltiness was rich and tasty, but the harsh vodka-like finish ended everything on an unpleasant note. Intriguing, but I would not drink it again. At least now I can say I've had arguably the most alcoholic craft beer in the world.

Had a chance to taste this several years ago, but, it unfortunately went unmemorialized. Poured from 12 oz. bottle into snifter. Deep orangish, golden body with a thin head and beautiful lacework. Aromas of a sweet floral bouquet and fresh hay. Golden, flaky, herbaceous biscuits doused in honey. Strong citrus, sweet mango, juicy white grapes, and peach flavors. This is a hoppy caramel infused high-octane nectar of the gods. Layer after layer of hop-filled delight where complexities abound. Steady streams of northbound carbonation. Resinous mouthfeel that leaves a slightly numbing sensation. Alcohol is even more pronounced as it warms. Paramount IPA that all hop lovers need to get their hands on.

Tasted from bottle. Pours a murky orange with white head. Interesting and complex aroma. Some caramel and toffee, some citrus and tropical fruits and some earthy tones. Flavor is equally complex. You do get some alcohol burn but this not take away from the flavor. Moderate sweetness with mild to moderate bitterness. Sticky and chewy on the palate. Caramel, toffee, biscuits, fruity flavors. Some spicey notes too. Complex and interesting beer. Not the best double ipa but definitely up there. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

High amount of sweet followed by a straight up alcohol. Tried letting it age, didnít really make it any better. I can see why people would like it, not really for me. Had it from a bottle.

2011, from Sunken, thanks a lot! Pours amber, no head, just a small ring clinging to the glass. Pretty much expected. Aroma is heavy even at fridge temp, port, raisins, sweetness, loads of caramel, subdued pine hops and resin. Pretty much like a well aged barley wine. Taste matches the aroma pretty much. Full bodied, high carbonation, thick but still very drinkable. Heavy bitter and warming after taste.
Surprised by the balance of this beer.

A great high abv IPA just done so right. Although at 120 IBU's very well balanced. Also at 18%+ abv was very smooth and drinkable. Always a "must have" in the IPA world. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
