COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at 21% ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads. Editors note: ABV reduced down to 18% in 2009.

Unbelievable. And not necessarily in a good way. It’s so far over the top that it almost makes you laugh. Pours a murky light amber (very opaque), with a good head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is (surprise!) *all* hops. It smells as if someone took a fresh handful of hops and crushed it below my nose. The flavor, surprisingly, doesn’t follow suit - there’s so much sweet malt brewed in that the hops don’t shine quite as brightly - though they’re *definitely* still there in full force. It is certainly sweet - like a distilled essence of the word bittersweet - and there’s no way to hide the 21%. As thick and syrupy as this brew is, it still burns quite a bit. It’s entertaining, for sure (especially toward the bottom of the glass, as the 21% kicks in... if you can get that far)... but this isn’t something to drink a full glass of on any regular basis. It’s just too much. Maybe one 12-oz. bottle split into sipping glasses for 4-6 people. A fun one to try, though, and it gets points for novelty!

Aged in bottle for one year. From Port Jeff Beverage, NY. Pours cloudy orange (slightly rusty) Medium carbonation. Minimal off-white head. Aroma- light almost hand-soap light citrus... floral. Taste- sweet floral star, into gentle beautiful spicy citrus floral soap flavor before malt over turn harsh end. End- heavy strong spicy caramelish malt taste with finish increasing to almost bitter. The finish is so bitter it almost makes you forget, but the journey to there is delightful and rather enjoyable.

Another one in my small list of backlogs. Pours medium amber with a thin head. Nose has flowers and citrus, malt. Taste has a solid bitter base that is in constant struggle with the full malt body, citrus and pine on the finish.

bottle. Amber with small head. I absolutely love both the 60 and 90 min IPAs, and was hoping for more of the same. Unfortunately, this seems like they’ve taken it too far. It’s very sweet, which I’m sure they needed to do to get the ABV cranked up. Extremely harsh and boozy. Hops are good, but the sweetness and alcohol bite are a major distraction. Definitely more interesting than good.

On tap at DFH Rehoboth. While definitely more boozy than hoppy, this is still a well balanced beer with a lot of complexity...just don’t expect an IPA.

Trinity Hall - Avoid at all costs. The only redeeming factor about this beer is you can sterilize surgical instruments with it, because it is straight up rubbing alcohol. 18% ....Really!?!

Pours a reasonably clear amber. Nose is caramel, figs, dates, wine-soaked raisins. Taste is figs, dates, caramel, burnt sugar, long sweet aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear orange amber with no head. Aroma of ripe peach, apricot and mango. Taste is alcohol and fruit sweet, very balanced after a year. Body is thick and alcohol creamy. Brilliant. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Orange pour. Citrusy hop and alcohol aroma. Super hoppy sweet intense flavor, and quite alcoholic, but I would be surprised if it wasn’t at 18%.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a deep ruddy amber with a very thin tan head. The nose is a potent mix of boozy caramel, pine, and tropical fruit notes. The flavor definitely starts off sweet but the massive amount of hops eventually reigns supreme with notes of pine, tropical fruit, and candied citrus. Fully bodied to the point of being almost syrupy with a very warming finish. Let’s face it, this one is made for balance and it isn’t. If you aren’t in the market for a bit boozy bomb of a beer, skip this one. But if you like your strong ales on the potent side, this one is worth seeking out. It changes nicely over time as well. Young you get a nice hop blast. As it ages the hops fade giving slightly oxidized notes to a solid barley wine.
