Pours a pale copper colour with almost no head. Aroma is of a sweet malt with floral notes. Flavour is rather sweet, almost sugary, with a pronounced citrus taste. Strangely there are some very slight coffee notes in both the aroma and flavour. There’s some bite from the hops but they are a bit less pronounced than I would expect from an IPA. Somewhat astringent but a bit too sweet of an aftertaste that I didn’t care for. Medium body with about the right amount of carbonation. Really, it’s not a bad beer at all but it sure is way overrated and overpriced. This stuff gets hyped a lot and I really was expecting more. A lot more. This is more of an American pale ale than an IPA, although it’d be on the maltier side of even American pale ales. I will have no problem finishing the 6-pack I bought but certainly won’t be buying more.

(Bottle at Oliver Twist, Stockholm, on 2009-04-12) Amber and clear. Small white head. Grassy and fruity hop aroma. Full bodied and dry palate with medium carbonation. Malts, hops, grass, hint of bread, bitterness and some molasses in taste. Malts and hops in aftertaste.

(bottle). Pours a yellow color. Medium size white head with moderate lacing. Has a hoppy aroma with light citrus, and a mild taste of hops and alcohol. Finish is somewhat astringent, and leaves an alcohol taste. Soft carbonation.

That same Dogfish Head matly/graininess. A nice beer, a unique beer. A good beer. A great one? Certainly not. Too much caramel, too much burnt. IPAs should be bitter and refreshing, but this is neither.

12 oz bottle. Pours pale gold with a medium white head. It has a wonderful strong citrus taste with a mild taste of clove and pineapple. The taste of hops is strong but now overpowering. I really enjoyed this beer.

Tap. Great beer with an average IPA aroma. The appearance is what you expect of a well made IPA, amber. The hoppy bitterness was exceptional, flavor was smooth and full of citrus. I love that about this beer. It does not stand out in the IPA pantheon but it does come close. I guess I need to try it once more.

bottle: I know this beer has quality and I bet the ingredients are high quality and yes it is a fine IPA and all, but a minor criticism here. Knock down this to 5.2 or 5% and you have the makings of an unparalled beer. As good as the malts are and the hops are just a little less alcohol would smooth this baby out into classic. IPA’s are so hard to get right. I will take a Fullers or Old Speckled Hen anytime over an IPA because their flavours round out into smooth drinkability.
