greig (169), Hamilton, New Zealand Aug 12, 2009 There’s so much complexity to this beer, but alas, it’s lack of freshness is showing. I am rating it as it stands (and I don’t think 3.6 is bad given age and distance travelled) but it’s become overwhelmingly malty - tasting of maltesers - and needs a re-rate when I taste it fresh. Recorded for reminder purposes only! :) Beerjunkie87 (4), , Massachusetts, USA does not count Aug 11, 2009 I have enjoyed this beer numerous times both in the bottle and on tap. I find that each time I drink this beer i discover a new flavor to latch onto also this is dependent on what i’m eating. But the maltiness is perfect with a good sweetness in the hops and great texture and color. Just a perfect offering from my favorite beer company skmikeg (70), Poway, California, USA Aug 11, 2009 Pour a copper color with a nice lingering white head. aroma is of pine, grapefruit, and some a good amout of carmel. flavor is similar with alot of pine, grapefruit hops, but also has some nice carmel malt falvor. also has a spicyness to it that pliney the elder lacks. mouthfeel is very thick and rich and the alchool is well hidden. the larger amounts of malt in this compared to other DIPAs really makes this a wonderful beer. Nena (116), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 11, 2009 Updated: Oct 21, 2009Has a lovely copper pour with a nice amount of head. Fresh pine aroma, with some caramel. Sweeter than a lot of imperial IPAs I’ve had, but quite well balanced and drinkable. The bitter hops aren’t as strong as I’d expect from the style either, and the sweetness really clings. It’s a bit too cloying on the finish for my taste and is the only thing that brings this beer down for me. Still, a solid and interesting beer. drowland (1337), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 11, 2009 I have had this beer many times and it is definitely one of my favorite DIPAs. Citrusy and malty sweet, the balance becomes more bitter (and therefore better balanced) as it warms and you drink. Outstanding! jport4087 (73), Pennsylvania, USA Aug 10, 2009 Best IPA that I’ve had so far. Typical piney and grapefuitty aroma. Hides the 9% very well. awiseman01 (318), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Aug 7, 2009 On Tap at Shallo’s. Pours slight cloudy dark copper with appealing foamy head. Lots of fresh citrus hops on the nose with a good malt character as well. Taste is rich hop greatness! The malt balance really makes this one special. A tiny amount of caramel and something like marshmallow comes through making this a truly unique tasting double. It’s no mistake that this is the highest rated of the DFH ’minute’ family. kappldav123 (1788), Markkleeberg, Germany Aug 7, 2009 The bottle looks great, the beer in the glass also. Starts quite hoppy and strong, also intense spicy notes, caramel, some fruit. Modest alcoholic. Well balanced finish, goes down warming still with nice hoppy notes. A great beer! Big thanks to Cletus (jjpm74) for the bottle!
