Commercial Description:
Esquire Magazine calls our 90 Minute I.I.PA., "perhaps the best I.P.A. in America." An Imperial I.P.A. brewed to be savored from a snifter. A big beer with a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate. This beer is an excellent candidate for use with Randall The Enamel Animal! 90 ibu

How this stands up depends almost entirely on the serving temp. When served warmed up properly, the smell is a blossom of hops, peach, apricot, bubblegum. The taste is complex and unique ~ butterscotch, rum, sugar, hops, more peaches, ghee. The hop balance is pretty strong yet this is quite drinkable. However, this particular IPA has a very "locked in" sort of taste compared to other IPA’s that I like that tend to have a more open, loose, and free kind of taste. I find this kind of flavour profile to be a bit of a trademark with every single DFH brew that I have ever had. It’s a bit hard for me to explain...I do like this beer, but I find it to be a hugely unrepresentative of the traditional IPA style. That is waht DFH does best though, right? So...cheers to this amazing and singular example of an interesting beer done...right? Sure...just be sure to warm it up.

The aroma has molasses, grapefruit and resin. It has a good, off-white head that disappeared quickly. It was clearer than I expected and makes me wish they had left it unfiltered. The flavor was full, acetic, and just delicious. I feel a little bad not absolutely loving this, but I love Dogfish head for existing and making this beer.

12 oz bottle. Copper color, nice white head. Huge amount of malts and hops, but in a good balance. Pine and citrus notes. A really great beer.

Bottled on 6/18/09. I guess I am still to green to get the love for this beer. Maybe I need to try again with dinner instead of a stand alone. It was tasty indeed and complex etc just not at all what i expected .

There’s so much complexity to this beer, but alas, it’s lack of freshness is showing. I am rating it as it stands (and I don’t think 3.6 is bad given age and distance travelled) but it’s become overwhelmingly malty - tasting of maltesers - and needs a re-rate when I taste it fresh. Recorded for reminder purposes only! :)

I have enjoyed this beer numerous times both in the bottle and on tap. I find that each time I drink this beer i discover a new flavor to latch onto also this is dependent on what i’m eating. But the maltiness is perfect with a good sweetness in the hops and great texture and color. Just a perfect offering from my favorite beer company

Pour a copper color with a nice lingering white head. aroma is of pine, grapefruit, and some a good amout of carmel. flavor is similar with alot of pine, grapefruit hops, but also has some nice carmel malt falvor. also has a spicyness to it that pliney the elder lacks. mouthfeel is very thick and rich and the alchool is well hidden. the larger amounts of malt in this compared to other DIPAs really makes this a wonderful beer.

Has a lovely copper pour with a nice amount of head. Fresh pine aroma, with some caramel. Sweeter than a lot of imperial IPAs I’ve had, but quite well balanced and drinkable. The bitter hops aren’t as strong as I’d expect from the style either, and the sweetness really clings. It’s a bit too cloying on the finish for my taste and is the only thing that brings this beer down for me. Still, a solid and interesting beer.
