bblack99 (195), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jul 6, 2009 Two sips in, and this is infinitely better than the 60 Minute IPA. Dogfish, you have redeemed yourself!
Pours a hazy amber with a bit less than a finger of off-white head. Smells sweetly of vanilla cake, toffee, and banana - almost like a hefe. Taste is not bitter, considering the 90 IBUs. Malt dominates the palate and the citrusy hops barely break through.
If I were an Imperial IPA purist, I would say that this beer was too smooth for the style, but instead, I’ll say it’s a great beer! JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Jul 4, 2009 Fully hazy orange-amber, under thick yellow-creamy head. Sweet & hoppy, cakey malts, waffles syrup, bit of banana ester. Sweet, slightly roasted, syrupy malts, ananas & banana esters, under the all-American-muscle C-hops. Bit of lytchee/rosewater. Very thick MF, syrupy, slick, but ending very balanced, all flavours converging. Nice twist - as this sample was apparently not the usual 90minutes. The original brought me probably to C-hops forever... Big thanks to CK! TampaBrew (726), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 3, 2009 Poured amber. Nose is HOPS! Pine and citrus melded with a sweet caramel nose. Flavor is a little off balanced bitter citrus and pine hops, some sugar, and toasted grains. Very nice IIPA that hides most of the booze. djcoke1 (9), Arizona, USA does not count Jul 3, 2009 On tap.
Pours dark amber with a white head good lacing. Light caramel and honey on the nose. Herbal hop and a sweet malt. A great ipa. phaleslu (423), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jul 1, 2009 12 ounce bottle. Pours amber with a slightly fluffy head. I see this as pretty much the standard as far as IPAs go- sweet with caramel and fruit, perfect amount of bitterness from the hops, and easy to find. Sometimes I feel like a hoppier IPA, but this one is good for any time. Light aftertaste. Perfectly balanced, you won’t find much better for an IPA out there. hophead21112 (109), Louisville (LEWISville), Colorado, USA Jun 30, 2009 Pours clear copper with a two finger size off-white head. Good retention and sticks to the glass as it recedes. A mix of coffee and floral bitterness with caramel malty sweetness on the nose. Interesting flavor that starts off almost like an imperial stout with coffee maltiness, followed by the hops and finishing with mild alcohol sweetness. Smooth medium body with moderate carbonation. I prefer a longer lasting bitterness in my IIPAs, this one kinda drops off in the middle. Good beer, however. springcreekale (10), Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA Jun 30, 2009 One of the better 2x IPA’s (technically imperial) out there. Don’t listen to anyone who says this beer has little or no head and tastes like alcohol- the flavors in this beer are abundant- and it pours nicely if you know how to pour an imperial style beer- Probably my favorite DFH "production" beer-
