Poured a golden copper color with alot of carbonation. Smells sweet with plenty of hops. taste really good, get the sweetness up front and then the hops finish it off. Overall a great beer for anyone who appreciates hops. Hopcrazy (27), Washington, USA Jun 29, 2009 12 oz bottle. A different imperail IPA. Poured a nice opaque orange/copper color with a fluffy head. Nose is nicely floral, but mild. I like the nose of the Pliny the Elder so much better. Initial taste was surprisingly sweet and floral for an IPA. No brutalness, like offered by many. Finished nice and long with a thick, but not heavy maltiness and hoppiness balance. I think this one will be a favorite for some time. ThaddeusBraun (9), North Carolina, USA does not count Jun 29, 2009 i am probably one of the few beer drinkers that does not like this beer. i LOVE IPAS and too me this does not reflect a great IPA, the malts are too dominant and the hops are too soft. i love Imperial (double) IPAS as well and expect a fair amount of malts and alcohol but this one is too one sided, i love DOGFISH HEAD but i can not stand this one. sdechert (13), The Colony, Texas, USA Jun 26, 2009 I’m not a huge IPA fan, but this one is my hands-down favorite of the IPAs. Pours a golden-orange-copper color with a great head and nice lacing. Hoppy aroma with hints of coffee and caramel. Mouth taste is initially sweet with a bitter, hoppy finish. Clean finish with little aftertaste. fata2683 (835), Panama City, Florida, USA Jun 26, 2009 bottle, pours deep gold/copper with a medium fluffy white head. Strong hop aroma, some grapefruit and cascade noticable. Sweet malty body, some carmel notes and a wallop of hop bitterness in the finish. Ends dry with a citrus rind bitterness in the back of the mouth. Solid. KyotoLefty (1370), Kyoto, Japan Jun 24, 2009 Bottle, about 1 year old.
Orange/copper color with a low, fine head. Spicy, piney hops, big malt (chocolate and caramel) background in the aroma. Very fruity, from lemons to cherries to raisins. Flavor includes a bit of smoke, wood, chocolate, alcohol heat, and something vinous. Very complex, with a very bitter finish. Great, though the hop aroma is way down compared to a fresh one. This one should be consumed right away for sure!
l1br4r14n (274), Washington, Washington DC, USA Jun 23, 2009 I’m not normally an IPA drinker but this is one I could actually enjoy a bit. It’s normally the overwhelming hop bitterness that turns me off, but this IPA had all of the wonderful hop and citrus flavors without knocking me over from the bitterness. Not bad. ALCOHOLNIZM (59), WARWICK, USA Jun 21, 2009 THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BEERS ,ITS CLOUDY GOLDEN IN COLOR WITH LITTLE HEAD, SMELLS OF DELICIOUS GRAPEFRUIT AND HOPS, TASTES OF PERFECT SWEET BITTERNESS , INCREDIBLY ENJOYABLE AT 9% ALC CONTENT IT GOES DOWN AMAZINGLY SMOOTH . IF THIS CAME IN 99 CENT 22 OZ BOTTLES THE WORLD WOULD BE HOOKED! AND DRUNK!!
