foundmd (163), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 11, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours translucent dark ruby orange with a medium off-white head. Aroma of sweet malts and fresh hops. A strong citrus and pine hop presence on the tongue is balanced by sweet caramel malt and dark fruits. Maybe a tad too sweet. Medium-bodied and smooth with a pleasantly dry, bitter finish. Dangerously drinkable for the style. Fantastic.
FedorStout (16), Anaheim, California, USA May 11, 2009 First beer from dogfish head. dam dog this fish got some head yallz. Smells really great i was expecting more hops from this. Not that it wasn’t good but a lot of malt covers the hops im used to from a dipa. Still very smooth and good definite good stuff TheHulk (106), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada May 10, 2009 The hop aroma infiltrates your nostrils and temps you to taste it, though I say temps b/c it’s not TOO strong smelling. Equal parts deep dark red and golden yellow hues, it looks almost sexy. The taste is loaded with hops and malt, but maybe too much malt, as it covers up the hops too much, although I personally think a slightly different hops usage would be preferable. The palate is quite strong, but drops off sharply to compensate for the crazy bang in the mouth. But I think it’s too much and then too little, there could be a better balance still. A great slow IPA, my #2. hobbersr (393), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada May 10, 2009 Was lucky enough to snag a 4 pk of the extremely limited quantity available in Alberta. Pours a coppery orange with a big white head that retains well and laces to the glass well. Aroma is initially extremely hoppy, tonnes of pine and citrus on the noes. Then as it warms some sweet malt comes through. Really cool pine, resin, melon, honey, caramel nose. Sweet malt dominates the palate... weird, not what I expected. Biscuit, honey, dandelion, resin, bitter chocolate, melon, pine, raisin on the palate. Nice mouth feel. Honestly, this wasn’t what I was expecting. It’s drinkable, but I was expecting more hops. Flavor was nice, good complexity, but I wanted more out of this beer. beezz86 (68), Jasper, Indiana, USA May 8, 2009 Bottle. Poured a clear, orange-yellow color with a small white head and some lacing. The aroma has a very hoppy aroma with citrus and floral scents. The beer had a medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, and a bitter finish. The flavor was a very hoppy blend of citrus (grapefruit) and floral. Overall this was a really hoppy beer and I liked it. This is a great beer to drink for the flavor of it. wmubronco1992 (176), Coldwater, Michigan, USA May 7, 2009 Bottle - Dark honey color. Medium sized white head. Ok lacing. Very nice woodsy aroma. Hoppy, but not as much as I would have expected. Sweet, a little too much alcohol flavor. Good mouthfeel. Overall a little dissappointed. Keep hearing how great this beer is, but come on, the Best IPA in America. Lets be real. I thought the hoppiness was covered up by the sweet fruit flavor. Both Bells Hopslam and Stone Ruination are much hoppier Imperial IPAs. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 7, 2009 Too sweet, too malty, and not enough bitter hops to balance it out. It drinks well, has a nice mouthfeel with a well crafted medium body, and pleasant aroma of dark fruits and hops. petematte46 (212), Dallas, Texas, USA May 6, 2009 Citrus and malt aroma, hoppy! Deelish imperial IPA, good balance between strong malt and hops flavors. Pours a nice golden/orange.
