A big beer with a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate. This beer is an excellent candidate for use with Randall The Enamel Animal! 90 ibu

12 oz bottle poured into Stone IRS tulip. Pours dark copper with a small head which settles to just a tiny ring. Almost no lacing left at all. Aroma is grassy/floral hops with a tad of cereal/toffee. Medium-bitter with some sweetish undertones. Medium body with a texture that is kinda slick. Very low carbonation. Medium-long bitter finish, which I also found to be very slightly astringent. A nice product overall (classic) but not my favorite. Alcohol can barely be perceived, so it gets a bit treacherous! I say that you have to drink it at least once, but I definitely had better.

Bottle. I love this more than the 120. It’s the perfect balance and strength for an IPA. Sweet grass hop, toffee scent. Translucent bronze appearance with a foamy head quickly dissolving to film. Thicker medium body with a sticky texture. Grassy hop fronted flavor to bitter to sweet toffee up into your nose with a burn, then back to finish on a bitter note. Awesome!

Bottle shared in courtesy of Amundsen-Tom, thanks.
Copper clear, big beige head. Smells of citrus, orange, pine and some malts. Very malty taste, heavy sweet, very fruity too. Medium body, soft carbonation, oily feel. Then the finish takes over, a wall of hops, medium to heavy bitterness, quite resiny and piney, also some citrus and grass. Typical east coast hop mix

Bottle 35.5 cl thanks to Aaron. Orange is the color, above all a white head persistent and frothy on the average. But after? This one definitely represent the concept that a non-hop bomb DIPA isn’t necessarily a boring caramel mash. On the contrary, even in the aroma 90 minutes has something different from other DIPAs. Sweetness is gentle, from raisins to plum, with a good citrus and tropical fruits components, both not strong. Dough and yeasty notes too. Maybe even some sugar, but minimal. Nothing is exaggerate, balance at its top. But flavor, it’s the real show: malt, caramel, molasses, blood orange, star fruit, grapes, white wine, brandy, burned sugar, walnut (!), Fact is, it’s incredibly complex. SO complex. But pleasant, and you literaly fear to finish it so fast. Alcohol doesn’t disturb or annoying you. Carbonation is nearly perfect, and nothing, NOTHING has the strength to shock you: every component has its dignity, and makes you appreciate it. Finish is initially that of a white wine, but after it turns to the dryness of a Gran Marnier or similar triple sec. Leaves the palate really harsh, even in the gums. And lasts, lasts. This is maybe the most complex DIPA ever had. But at the same time has a basic simplicity. Fantastic work by Dogfish Head.

Tap. Pours slightly hazy amber with average, frothy white head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is caramel and cookie malt, floral and dank hops, citrus fruit, figs, and pine. Flavor is balanced malt and hops with good supporting fruit esters; smooth throughout with a slightly hoppy finish. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation.

citrus, grass, resin, hay, dough, orange, hazy, frothy, white foam, medium sweetness, very bitter, medium body, oily feel, lively, long finish. Very well balanced beer. Noticed some tones of raison and honey as well. Changes over time while drinking. Nice how malt and hops play off each other. Good beer, allthough not worth the cost in the Netherlands.

Cloudy brown colour and a thin white head. Hoppy aroma with hints of toffee. Smooth, medium body. Taste is strong and very nice. Hops are not too overpowering. Aftertaste lingers in the mouth for a decent while. It’s a very good beer.
