jamvin23 (162), chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 15, 2009 Bottle. Orange colour with a big tan head. Aroma: Floral hoppy, citrus. Flavor: sweet grapefruit , hoppy taste. Medium to full body and a sweet grape, hoppy finish. Great!!! MoritzF (4856), Bochum, Germany Feb 15, 2009 (35.5cl bottle) Hazy, orange-amber colour with a medium-sized, slightly tanned foamy head Very aromatic piney and subtle fruity (sultanas) hoppy nose with a present and slightly toasted malty blend and licorice spice. Bitter flavour with a rounded malty sweetness, full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Robust malty base with notes of licorice and a touch of caramel, accompanied by delicate fruity flavours of raisins, citrus and pineapples. The aromatic hop character is always present in an elegant way. Medium-dry, bitter-sweet lingering hoppy finish with delicate but warming alcoholic notes. Superb (15.II.09). Ticepoppa (2), Arizona, USA does not count Feb 15, 2009 This is a staple of mine. An imperial that has a light amber but is very bold and intensely flavorful. The aroma is almost sweet and the taste has depth with citrus and raisins. SamGamgee (1394), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Feb 15, 2009 Updated: Jul 6, 200912oz bottle at RFD. Bright amber with a creamy head. The aroma definitely lets you know it’s DFH--there is something about the hops, maybe the result of the continuous hopping, that is quite similar to the 60min, with a grapefruit and melon fruity quality. They are also more floral and piney here though, which I like more. There is also a good bread crust and caramel balance. The flavor comes as expected after the aroma with a good balance of fruity melon and citrus, floral and piney hops and bready caramel maltiness. Malty, yes, but with a big bitterness in the finish to balance. Not a kick of pure hops, but for what they’re going for this is quite nice.
Draught at Toronado SD. Thought it would be fun to compare this with the local IPAs that I has been having this weekend. Very sweet, syrupy, and malty in comparison. Didn’t seem this sweet out of the bottle before, but I really was not digging this on tap nearly as much. Itzjerm (69), Harvest, Alabama, USA Feb 15, 2009 This is the best IPA I have ever had. Very robust. So many flavors, you detect the raisons, dates and other dark flavored senses. I would highly recomend. On draft one of the best beers you will ever have. Light on the hops. Just enought to add a tang. Smooth and enjoyable! Ryan82SM (229), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Feb 13, 2009 Nice hoppy aroma, with some wheatiness and earthy tones, maybe even a touch of grapefruit. Amber appearance with carbonated head that was mostly a memory by the time I sat down for sushi. I definitely tasted the brandy, surrounded by some orange, sour apples and other bitter fruit flavors. Palate leaves a sting, nearly a sizzle. I love that the aftertaste of this beer leaves the bitter behind, very pleasant. A great beer in a style I once thought I despised. WildJohn (1), , Pennsylvania, USA does not count Feb 12, 2009 On tap - many locations, but very nice at the Squirrel Hill Cafe (Squirrel Cage). I must agree with Equire mag.- perhaps the best IPA in America. Excellent hops, aroma, color and finish. Really nothing bad to say about it, except perhaps that after 6-8, I’ve got a little package on! jmulv (76), Rensselaer, New York, USA Feb 11, 2009 Served on tap at my college’s pub, this is a go-to on a Thursday night. For an IPA fan, it really doesn’t get much better than this. Citrusy, hop-filled, and goes down smooth leaving a delightful aftertaste. One of the best.
