4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Slightly hazy orange color with a small head and a bit of sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Delicious and big citrusy aroma of grapefruit, lemon/lime and mint. Good medium body and quite drinkable, with loads of hoppy flavors surprisingly well balanced by the malt. Lingering bitter hoppy finish with a hint of alcohol. Maybe I'm just getting more used to these hop bombs because this one seemed fairly civilized. I'm not complaining though-good stuff!

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: SEP 4, 2006 This courtesy of hopsrus (thanks!) poured a clear orange body covered by an initially large off-white head that diminishes quickly in a fin du monde glass. Nevertheless, an honest film for a beer of this caliber maintains the position. The smell is floral hops up front with definite orange character. Innocent malt is not absent from that sniff in the form of baked cookies. As it enters the mouth, it’s rather "coating", thick and velvety as seems usual with dogfish head. First sip is excellent with a sausage+sauerkraut dinner, great combination. I appreciate the difference from all-cascade IPA, but still, the last sips seemed far more boring, one-dimensional, rather tart in mouth and all about agressive (unbalanced) bitterness in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is top notch clean though and 9% is nowhere to be found.
On recent samples, either I got over sensible to sweetness or this one got sweeter, because this is agressively sweet for an IPA though not so much as the 120, but still not very pleasant to me, syrupy and very hard to drink.

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Poured a bright, nearly glowing amber with a big white diminishing head. Smells like petunias and grapefruit. Tastes like sucking on a grapefruit. Sucking on a grapefruit sucks. I don't care how much malt was trundled into this; it doesn't make me change my mind about the grapefruit. Ew.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This beer POURS big! Long lasting head that sheets the glass all the way to the finish. Body is creamy, full, sweet citrus and a slight taste of wood. Finishes slightly acidic with a real nice hop bite. One of my favorite IPA's!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cloudy orange color. The flavor is piney more so than citrusy like the 60 minute. A decent amount of malt presence to balance it off and the alcohol is very nicely hidden.

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2004 12oz Bottle
Large rocky head which fades into almost nothing. Body is a very nice medium amber color. Hops of course are present in the aroma... very heavy with some herb and grapefruit. Texture is creamy, but a little too carbonated on the tongue. Not too thick. Bitter grapefruit like hops all around in the flavor, which I absolutely love. Hops are balanced by the barley, which sweetens it just right.
Old 750ml Bottle - 5/21/04
Nice creamy white head, dark amber body that gets cloudy towards the end of the bottle. Full aroma that isn't your normal IIPA... brown sugar, butterscotch/toffee, cherry, strawberry, cookie. Flavor: Cinnamon applesauce, brown sugar, butterscotch, corriander. I think its like stale hops to, but that could just be in my head. Really complex in both aroma and taste. Very enjoyable.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Finally found this in a 12oz bottle! According to the bottle, it was packaged in 6. No clue as to 6 of what, but if it meant June, this was a mighty fresh bottle.
Pours a dark orange color. It wasn't easy getting a head on it, but once it was there it stayed around for a while and left a nice lace.
Smells florally malty with some strong hops in there.
Tastes a bit citrusy. Well balanced between the hops and malt. I was expecting more, to be honest. I mean, it's good, but just not *that* good. The high alcohol content is barely perceivable, but it's there.
Mouthfeel is good and full; anything *but* watery. Nice crisp finish.
Drinkability is good as well. I think I was expecting something a little more "extreme" than this. I wouldn't have a problem having several of these, but from all the hype I was thinking one would set me back a few days.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
What a great IPA. Reminds me of the arrogant bastard from stone. Great hop aroma, flavor and bitterness balanced with malt at the end. The finish is a liitle more on the hop bitterness and flavor than the bastard. It still has that nice spicey hop flavor that lingers on your lips after you drink it. What a great beer that I will enjoy again.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I have had this in both 26 oz bottle and in 12 oz. Deep orange in color, with slight head which sticks to the glass. Citrus and grapefruit hop aroma, with the flavor being somewhat piney. Some malt background but overall, it is dominated by high alpha hops. Alcohol is hidden well. Surprisingly quaffable for such a strong beer..

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2004 Bright brassy orange, decent carbonation, snow white velvety head, and thick lace. Great aroma of honeysuckle flowers and sweet apricots. Initially the thick malts are striking, however the palate gradually surrenders unconditionally to the hop onslaught. Flavor also has some dustiness. Very full palate. This is a serious hop fix.
