incrediable smooth for an ipa. the hops are flavorful without being oppressive. i didn't really get much of an aroma, but that's probably because i inhaled some of the head trying to find it... dogfish continues to be the ipa king (for ipa haters)

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: NOV 18, 2007 What got me when I was drinking this one was how well integrated the malt, hops and alcohol were. It was hard to tell it had 9% abv. Nice resiny hop taste, refreshing bitterness, a big, big IPA. The carbonation on mine was much less than in the 60, a bit flat for my taste. Some of the estery aroma from high gravity brewing lets you this one will pack a punch, but the balance is superb. The 60 is a more refreshing choice ... sacrilege but I mix the two.

1.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
Beer pours (in Chimay glass) a red-orange golden with little, slightly off-white head quickly disapating to nothing. Aroma of cherry-alcohol-citrus-pear. Flavor of... strong hops, dry. Hops are an undesireable characteristic IMO. Hops are best described as drinking concentrated soapy water - not good. This is a drainpour. But if you are into hops, this is probably your beer. No good for hop-haters. Sampled at 73 degrees Fahrenheit.

A Unique IPA (like most of Dogfish Head's beers) Floral, citrusy nose with a Piney deeply bitter finish. Good IPA, A bit unbalanced (actually a lot)

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. bottle, packaged in "5", which I assume to be may 2003....Damn, this is round and danerous stuff, I've had the corked (bottle conditioned?) 750 of this as well, but I think this particular bottle is the best I've had of this beer. Great full mouth-feel, combined with a smooth and rich tropical fruit flavor with very prominent(yet fully integrated) bitterness I'm not going to get any more "flowery" than that, I'll just own up to this being an ass-kicking apertif that you really should nail at some point if you consider yourself a SERIOUS beer rater.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: AUG 3, 2005 Rerate: Have you ever Had this beer on Draft... WOW!!! - Talk about a beer style that has grown on me, Imperial IPA! Large notes of caramel and apple, but mainly a citric grapefruit / cumquat portrait. Also, long notes of pinesap and a touch of smoky molasses. A Very tasty I-IPA, I will certainly be drinking more of this being that we just got distribution here in Florida.
For my 100th rating I chose a beer that I am unable to find in Florida, if it were not for a beer trade with a first rate beer enthusiast from Philadelphia, Dberger624. ** The Dogfish Head 90 min is a unique IPA. I am drinking a 12oz bottle, which must not be bottle conditioned like I thought it would be. However, I must say that it’s still an almost flawless representation of my ideal IPA; Complex, but not over the top in any particular manner. == Yet with the number of ratings that this beer already has, I will not get into great description of this beers characteristics.= I will say that this 90 min in particular had a very small head but a majestic rusty amber color. The aroma is citric and sweet, but the flavor is mysteriously smoky, malty, and spicy with a dry bitter finish. This is an excellent beer by anyone’s standards, but it was not as interesting an experience as I had anticipated it being. This 90 min would be a wonderful beer to have on a regular basis, but for me it was no endorphin rush.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 17, 2004 Copper hue with a small solid white head and some lacing. Very piney, woody, earthy, smoky aroma. Hint of vanilla and fruit. Aggressive bitter hop taste initially, smoothed out after a bit with the presence of alcohol and grain. Lingering pine aftertaste. Mouthfeel was surprisingly smooth and syrupy. Medium to full-bodied.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Compared this side-by-side with the 60 Minute IPA. The 90 was a little darker and clearer than the 60. The nose is less malty and more hoppy and citrusy. While the hops dominate, the malts and barley are quite evident, especially as it warms. The sweetness seems to increase as well. More complex than the 60, with a better finish and aftertaste. Both are head and shoulders above many other IPA's.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Excessively thick head with a bronze body with a wonderful, refreshing hop aroma that had a touch or saly sea air. The flavor was similarly hoppy and the seaside touch remained. Decent fruity profile. A nice IPA that is neither boring, nor mind blowing.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
a smokey, piney aroma, a beautiful copper color with no head at all, the hops are very potent - but they seem to balance each other out, my mouth almost feels like it is in a forest when i am drinking this, besides the hops doing a balancing act - there is no one else working there - no malt flavor or yeast - just hops, leaves a coating of hop flavor madness on the tongue, but there is one thing this beer has and it is a perfectly hidden alcohol content
