Esquire Magazine calls our 90 Minute I.I.PA., "perhaps the best I.P.A. in America." An Imperial I.P.A. brewed to be savored from a snifter. A big beer with a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate. This beer is an excellent candidate for use with Randall The Enamel Animal! 90 ibu

Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA was one of the first truly ďbigĒ IPA brews of the style and has earned its place in the proverbial ďCraft Beer Hall of Fame.Ē Itís radically different when compared to brews of the style today because itís so well-balanced. In fact, it might even been too malty for its own good, as it seems to drink like an imperial amber ale. Regardless, itís still quite delectable and easy to drink Ė no wonder itís endured all these years.

I poured a 12oz bottle into the official Dogfish Head goblet. It was bottled on 10/2/14 and cost $3.99 ($0.33 per ounce).

Appearance: Beautiful copper hue; mostly clear with a slight haze; plenty of visible carbonation. Pours to a two-finger, white frothy head which laces and retains very well.

Smell: For a supposedly hoppy beer thereís a strong malt presence in the nose. Sweet notes of caramel and brown sugar, plus flowers and pine needles.

Taste: This is an overtly malty IPA. Thereís a lot of sweetness and itís immediately recognizable. Toffee, caramel and other candy flavors lay the foundation for a hefty malt base. Though a highly-hopped beer at 90 IBUs, itís actually not all that bitter (well, not aggressively so). Like a good East Coast-style hoppy brew, the bitterness is slightly dank with a taste of piney and floral hops. The alcohol appears on the back end, accentuating the malt character and imparting mild warmth. Thereís a distinct taste akin to coffee right as it finishes; probably due to some specialty malt. This is a well-rounded beer to say the least and an enjoyable one due to its uniqueness. An oldie but a goodie.

Drinkability: This is the kind of beer that was probably a behemoth when it debuted (or to craft beer drinking newbies); yet it seems so pedestrian in its delivery. Definitely full-bodied, but the mouthfeel is not as intense or cloying or sticky as you might expect. Thereís even slight crispness from the carbonation. At 9% ABV itís not surprising to find the alcohol plays a role in providing some warmth, but itís far from a fire-breather. Additionally, at 90 IBUs itís not an enamel-scraper, either. There is some lingering bitterness, but itís easily tolerable. This is the kind of beer that will pair perfectly with a meal that can match its robustness and balance.

Malty and hoppy! Maybe one of the best imperial IPA from USA. The constant hopping process gave this beer an intense (but not hard) hop flavor. On my case I also noticed a spice finish. Try it!!

Copied from my BA review. Bottle date: 07.23.14. Poured from a 12 oz bottle on 09.15.14 into a beer can glass. A: 1 finger head. See through gold/yellow. Can see bubbles rising to the top. S: Honey, grapefruit, orange. The smell blends together. The flavors donít stand out much individually. T: Honey, grapefruit, orange are most apparent. Hop resin is more subtle. M: Seems like it has enough carbonation. Somewhat creamy. O: This is a very complex IIPA. The flavors follow the nose in blending together, which adds to the complexity, but theyíre muted. So muted, I forgot that this was an IIPA. It is definitely in the East Coast style for IPAs, which I donít usually enjoy. This one was simply ok for me. I thought that the 60 Minute was better and more hop forward, which I prefer. Maybe the hops died a little while sitting on the shelf, but I doubt it from what other reviewers have written. If you like a well-balanced IIPA, this one may be for you, but I didnít care for it.

Gold pour, steady and creamy white head. Nose is restrained pine, touch of alcohol. Bitter. Middle is soft caramel, dried fruit, and a hint of citrus. Finish is bittersweet and lasting. Dangerously smooth.

This is truly the perfect Imperial IPA. From the appearance to the aroma, this beer captures everything this style should. The malt profile is just enough to complement the tremendous amount of wonderful hops.

IPA wise, this beer is almost perfect for me! Pours an amber/orange liquid. Tiny bubbles going up from the bottom of the glass. One finger medium-foamy head. Appearance is delightful! Aromas of fruity but not citrucy hops. I get pears and peaches. The mouthfeel is really really what got me: a warm wave of fresh fruits invading the mouth and going down the throath. Itís a bit oily, a little sugary but nothing to mmuch - so smooth!!!! The smoothness is overwhelming! I didnít give this beer a perfect score because to me, perfection doesnít exist when it comes to describe either food or beer. An fantastic one for me!

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2015 Intense, flowery hops flavors overwhelm the palate. Very slightly sweet, long bitter finish. Strong lingering grapefruit flavors.

12fl oz bottle imported by a good buddy. Strong and steady carbonation in a clear poured golden brown. Malted fruit loaf aroma nada massive alcohol punch on the mouth. The hops make their presence felt above the malty backbone and the finishes rounded and bitter. Full on amigo.

Malty and thick but hoppy. Not too much. Surprisingly smooth for an imperial. Great beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
