ryanknock (150), San Francisco, California, USA Jan 19, 2009 This is a bomber, with amazing floral, resiny and sweet. The aromatics are perfumlike in their pungence, with pine and citrus assulting the nose. The flavor begins malty-sweet, slight caramel and toast, then switches to lemon, orange, pine and earth. The impression is very mouthfilling (at 9%), sweet but not cloying, resiny, and very bitter through the finish. jwager (10), Cary, Illinois, USA Jan 19, 2009 Excellent beer. Although this beer has a very high alcohol content, they did not give up taste to achieve that goal. The hops are strong, but in a good way. This beer has jumped to the top of my list of ipa’s overnight. gringo332 (235), Richardson, Texas, USA Jan 19, 2009 Updated: Aug 22, 2009A really great beer. Amber pour with a white head. Strong aroma of hops and an equally strong flavor of hops. The hop flavor really comes through and the bitterness is well balanced with a little raisin sweetness LarvalChemist (29), Lexington, Kentucky, USA Jan 17, 2009 Poured out a golden amber and very translucent. Head was white with a hint of tan and very strong. The head was also very long lasting with good lacing on the glass.
The nose is complex and simply amazing. Hops dominate but are not overpowering. Citrus notes shine through and make the mouth water.
Taste is pretty damned close to perfect. Hoppy through and through but not to the point of burning out your palate. Plenty of complexity to be had and an almost sweet finish that leaves you wanting more.
Highly recommended as probably one of my favorite beers. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 15, 2009 I’ve had this a bunch of differnt places, but This was fianlly rated from a 4 pack of bottles I got as a gift. Solid copper color with a nice white head, strong hoppy aroma with some malt presence. the flavor is wonderfully hoppy but balence with eough carmely malts to make it smooth as candy while being refreshingly bitter. I’m really happy to see this getting regular distrabution on the west coast now. nj4christ (26), Columbus, New Jersey, USA Jan 14, 2009 On tap and in bottles, I get this one quite frequently. It helps not being that far from Milton. By far, this is the best IPA I’ve ever tasted! It’s continually hopped for 90 minutes, which is apparent in the hoppy bite, but it also is very well balanced and smooth. Pour it into a glass and enjoy! TheJollyOne (203), Kofu, Japan Jan 11, 2009 Dark amber body under an off white head with nice lacing. Smell suggests a good deal of caramelized malts, candy sweetness, raisin. Wow. Beautiful balance of sweet malts and bitter hops, a touch of stout style charcoal at the end with bitter chocolate. Wow this is good. Palate is soft and medium. Thanks to TimE for a great reccomendation. brewski519 (393), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA Jan 10, 2009 On tap at City Beverage in Durham NC this beer came over as a solid golden color with a nice white head. The aroma is pine, grapefruit and caramel. Taste is perfect - citrus, nice malt background with a prominent hoppy flavor and subtle alcohol with makes this Imperial IPA extremely drinkable. A great, great IPA.
