killjoy966 (215), Washington, USA Oct 5, 2008 A lovely tasting IPA that feels warm and fuzzy in the mouth. A truly bitter beer mellowed by a raisiny, brandy flavor. A superb beer that I can’t say enough good things about. 0o9i (326), Reno, Nevada, USA Oct 4, 2008 12 oz bottle. Clear, deep honey-colored, sparkling body topped with a small-but-persistent, bone-colored head that leaves behind nice rings of lace. The nose is citrusy with grapefruit, pine astringence, sweet booze, metal, lots of roasted malt//caramel. Mouth is medium with a good dose of creamy//foamy carbonation for a dry finish. A nice mouth. Flavor is big: lots of hops and lots of malts; a tremendous amount of both, kind of battling one another. In the blue corner, fighting for hops, we have Grapefruit Rind being coached by Pinimus Maximus. Fighting out of the red corner is Roasted Barley, being coached by Baked Raisin. Refereeing the fight is a Sugared Brandy. Other tasting notes include caramel, lots of floral, honey, heavily roasted finish from the malts, and some pine sap floating in the background. A bit rough overall--maybe a few months of cellaring would help--but quenching, drinkable, unique, and very good. Not your ordinary IPA. Let it warm up. bradlyc77 (226), Sebastopol, California, USA Oct 2, 2008 Pours a nice amber color with citrus and pine aromas. Nice caramel malt flavor with hints of raisin and brown sugar. A truly great IPA. Indulgence (141), Ajo, Arizona, USA Oct 1, 2008 I can see why everyone likes this one, sweet hops, excellent texture... the only one small drawback was the alchohol, but it is better blended and smoother than many other IIPA. Incredible look in a tulip with a the clear amber body and lacy head, taste is as described, could not do better than DFH says... body is smooth, creamy and slippery... great beer. taalhiker (179), Dayton, Ohio, USA Sep 29, 2008 From bottle. Part of Dayton Beertastring event.
Pours orange in color with a solid head . Hops dominate the aroma. Plenty of hops to share in this bad boy. The alcohol is barely noticeable. Classic IIPA..... Narnad (681), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Sep 28, 2008 Come outta the bottle a nice dark orange with light carbonation and a very small head. Aroma hits the nose as soon as the cap is opened up and consists of mostly a pine and citrus hop aroma. Flavor is terrific! Great sugary sweetness to the beer meshes well with the early citrus hops and which fades to a great pine bitterness to finish. Alcohol is not overpowering but does seem to warm the beers flavor and meld everything together in your mouth. Taste buds are a bit numb after this beer. Great very well balanced and full beer. Look forward to another one sometime soon. dEM1972 (53), , Illinois, USA Sep 28, 2008 Darker shade of brown, clear traces of gas rising; Very nutty, malted brown bread aroma; strong blast of deep, bitterness fills the mouth (almost overpowering), has that deep roasted nuttiness (not sure which type of nut) in the flavour; Rich bitterness in the aftertaste brokephibroke (137), Mead, Colorado, USA Sep 27, 2008 Clear, oarnge / peach color with a small, white head which does not cover the surface of the beer. Yeasty, candy, flowers and pine aroma. The palate is warmed by a smooth, crisp bitterness with low carbonation. Very well balanced, very well balanced. As a frequent Avery drinker, I find this brew refreshngly balanced. This is a fine IPA, did I say it was balanced?
