nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 2, 2008 I’ve had this beer both from a bottle and on tap over the last year. Pours a clear amber color with a huge whitish head. Aroma is citrus hops. Taste is a rush of hops, followed by a sweet malt and something else I can’t place. The flavor of the beer masks the 9% very well. I could drink these all day. I prefer Hopslam, but these are easier to get. carboloader (318), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 2, 2008 Pours clear amber with tall thick tan head that sticks around. Aroma is fruity hops. The sweet malt is strong -- I taste molasses and raisins. Has a bitter hop alcohol-evident finish. Not the typical IIPA -- the hops are more subtle and the complex malts are more evident -- a bit too much for me, but I see what all the stink is about. An IPA with complex malts that match the usual hop infusion. Just one of these will knock you over. yumyum (113), barrie, Ontario, Canada Aug 1, 2008 Updated: Sep 16, 2009sooo good. thus far the best ipa I’ve had. I enjoyed the 60 minute also but this is a more complex. I was actually surprised by how sweet this beer was. I was expecting to be bowled over by hops but it was surprisingly balanced. Very fruity and very smooth considering the ibu’s. nice finish. My gold standard for an ipa thusfar UPDATE did a blind tasting versus hop 15 and ruination and this was the winner. Nose not quite as nice as hop 15 but edged it out on the flavour profile and palate BigBang (210), Indiana, USA Jul 30, 2008 Updated: Aug 2, 2008Fantastic IPA, although I had it served in a pint glass versus snifter, unfortunately. Ruby appearance with limited. Nice sweetness and light on bitterness overall. Very fruity and good mouthfeel. Big time winner. stchloe (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 29, 2008 Sweet beer tasty orgasm of hops. Though mine came in a non-classy pint glass. DubC5000 (195), San Diego, California, USA Jul 29, 2008 Blew me away. Doesn’t taste a bit like a traditional IPA, as the hop profile is extremely subtle and allows the other flavors to breathe more. Honey, caramel, brown sugar and fruity hops are apparent on the nose along with a little yeast like a Belgian sweet ale. The drink tastes of maple, molasses, honey and malt, with some clear hop bitterness but no hop flavor. Meady and sweet, and despite some alcohol burn there are no out of place flavors. moelikebeer (219), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 28, 2008 Bottle. Clear light amber pour with a slight head. Aroma of malt and piney and citrusy hops. Similar flavor with plenty of grapefruit. One of the finest IIPA’s I’ve ever had. SHANER4 (370), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jul 27, 2008 Poured a orangish honey color from a 12 oz. bottle. Aroma is piney and also earthy. Flavor is malty and piney, high ABV. is hidden quite well. A very nice double IPA but not my favorite. Taste like it had been aged in wooden cask.
