Have been looking for this for some time after having had the 60 and 120 min.
And surprise, not a lot on the nose. Very shy, some orange but overall way to subdued. Where is the bitterness? This is an IIPA, right?
Like wine is it just a matter of balance? If so I can aggree with the hype.
Orange with low head. Beautifull colour.
Citrus nose, lacks some in complexity. Very nice bitteness, but far from what I expect in an IIPA.
Very sweet with loads of dried fruit.
Wonderfull balance, wonderfull creaminess and mouthfeel.
Nothing extreme about this one, and maybe that is the greatness? Oh, and where is the alcohol? Maybe I had to many (strong) beers tonight to rate it properly? Will have to rebuy some time.
I don’t really know what to think of it? Very fine beer, could drink tons of it. Fratto (670), Arlington, Texas, USA Sep 14, 2009 I need to try this again. Had it a long time ago and hated it. Needs another try. gobeers (11), Wisconsin, USA Sep 12, 2009 A malt forward beer. Toasted malts with a good balance of hops. Different than most IPAs in a good way. Not too harsh. BenDover (125), Texas, USA Sep 11, 2009 Pours a clear orange, some white foam. Aroma is very much hops, with some nice spices on top. Some malt comes through on the taste, nice and complex, some fruity and sugary flavors to balance the major hops. This is possibly the best IPA I’ve ever had. RichardW (237), Carlisle, Cumbria, England Sep 11, 2009 Bottle, Rehills, Newcastle. Wow! Read a lot about this beer and was looking forward to trying it - I was not disappointed. Not the hop overload I was expecting, rather a mellow, beautifully smooth complex beer. Flavours of caramel, treacle, lemon sherbert and brown sugar. Fine pale russet colour, lovely warming sensation as it goes down. I’m not a hophead, but this is amazing. thelizard (27), Canton, Ohio, USA Sep 9, 2009 One of my favorites that I’ve been meaning to review. Beautiful, dark, golden appearance, with a thin, white head. Aroma is pure hops. The first sip is always something of a system shock. It’s strong... but not. They do a good job of balancing it with barley. The mouthfeel is IPA, but the aftertaste is barley wine. Just a fantastic beer. stef92 (67), Williamstown, New Jersey, USA Sep 8, 2009 Bold, flavorful, strong IPA! Deep golden color. Aroma is floral and citrusy almost tickles your nose. Bold hoppy malted flavorwith fruity alcohol finish. Reminded me slightly of Pannetone (Italian holiday raisin bread/cake). Big beer. one of my favorites to date. Wombata (74), Kobe, Japan Sep 7, 2009 Updated: Sep 8, 2009Color: Gold with orange tint
Aroma: Caramel, moderate earthy and vegetal notes, rich, concentrated fruity malt
Flavor: Caramel and dried fruit dominates at first and is followed by savoury/earthy roast grain and dried date/fig carries through on the finish.
Comment: 2008 purchase; aged one year. Very smooth mouth feel, Moderately sweet but not cloying. Understated bittering supports the malt from start to finish. The flavor also evolves, creating a complex drink. A favorite and one of the best beers I’ve had this summer.
2008 tasting of a 90 minute purchased in 2007.
Aroma: resin, spice, ripe orange, burnt coffee, rich malt
Flavor: Rich malt, fruity, creamy sweetness with coffee notes
Long 40sec+ finish--sweet malt caramel, some butterscotch spice
Comment: Emphasis is on sweetness over bitterness; Very smooth, beautifully integrated, complex. Could be a 4.6+.
