3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 25, 2007 Original rating: 8/11/05 - 7/3/9/4/18=4.1Clear yellow-orange pour, with an extremely creamy off-white head that laces fantastically. Medium-strong standard hops aroma, acerbic and cloying. Impressive! Flavor is so smooth and silky, with fantastic symmetry in the flavor profile and a complex blossom of hop and malt notes. Absolutely delicious, I wish I could drink this for days on end. Complex blend of cream, wheat, malt, brown sugar, grapefruit, floral, and light almonds. Palate is very sweet and sticky, making you want for more. Chewy, with a very strong texture. Fantastic. More drinkable than most IIPAs I’ve had.
Rerate - 12 Oz Bottle - 6/3/6/2/13=3.0 What the hell was I thinking? This is terrible. Aroma is a stagnant cesspool of catty hop flesh and decaying ferns. There are some bright spots with a little candied resin. Pour is acceptable with a burnished gold afroth with white. Flavor is immediately sapifying. Theres too much sugar from the get go. Cats climb into bed with caramelized raisins. Lots of stinky residuals, greased with high gravity yeast by-products. Filtering removes probably any intrigue. Theres a creamy softness, likely derived only from excessive malt content. It doesn’t approach the warm breadiness from hop construction in good examples. Palate is downright sticky. Theres a creeping ugly plant bitterness in the backend. Combine that quality with excess sugars and I left a third of a glass at the bar. I’m glad to see my tastes have improved. New score is composite.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours off white head. Massive aroma of hops. Tastes rather sweet, with a good hit of hops and the malt backbone showing through, a bit of alcohol creeping in. Real smooth mouthfeel, and a lasting malt flavour.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ar: Moss and orange - a bit of peach.
Ap: Clear orange-amber - medium-small off-white head with moderate-low retention - leaves a ring of fine foam bubbles, some film.
T: Big tangy orange citrus flavor, juicy tangerine - medium sweetness - some herbal accents, with high bitterness - finish is lemon and orange, with a clean lingering bitterness.
P: Medium body with high carbonation - finish is dry.
O: Nice 2XIPA - the aroma is very subdued, but the flavor is robust, with a clean bitterness and smooth alcohol.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
A: Dark amber with a head of about 2 inches and a nice thin lace.
A: Flowery with a subtle pine and citrus. The scent is really inviting.
T: A rich blend of pine, citrus (grapefruit), and bread with a hint of something sweet at the end.
M: Very full and silky followed by a nice crisp bite at the end. Feels like a good scotch and leaves you wanting more.
The is a solid beer by all standards. The hops really come through but are not overpowering, and this lacks the strong bitterness that turns some away from "hoppy" beers. It has really complex flavors and aroma, and the high ABV is not apparent in the taste, which makes this a great beer for sipping. I like serving in lightly chilled bottle, and drink slowly to really enjoy it’s depth.

Deep red, gold colour. Full, rich pour with good head. Attractive malty nose. Citrus, strong tastes. Slightly astringent alcohol tones but a beer that is refreshingly assertive on the palette.
