3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 25, 2007 Original rating: 8/11/05 - 7/3/9/4/18=4.1Clear yellow-orange pour, with an extremely creamy off-white head that laces fantastically. Medium-strong standard hops aroma, acerbic and cloying. Impressive! Flavor is so smooth and silky, with fantastic symmetry in the flavor profile and a complex blossom of hop and malt notes. Absolutely delicious, I wish I could drink this for days on end. Complex blend of cream, wheat, malt, brown sugar, grapefruit, floral, and light almonds. Palate is very sweet and sticky, making you want for more. Chewy, with a very strong texture. Fantastic. More drinkable than most IIPAs Iíve had.
Rerate - 12 Oz Bottle - 6/3/6/2/13=3.0 What the hell was I thinking? This is terrible. Aroma is a stagnant cesspool of catty hop flesh and decaying ferns. There are some bright spots with a little candied resin. Pour is acceptable with a burnished gold afroth with white. Flavor is immediately sapifying. Theres too much sugar from the get go. Cats climb into bed with caramelized raisins. Lots of stinky residuals, greased with high gravity yeast by-products. Filtering removes probably any intrigue. Theres a creamy softness, likely derived only from excessive malt content. It doesnít approach the warm breadiness from hop construction in good examples. Palate is downright sticky. Theres a creeping ugly plant bitterness in the backend. Combine that quality with excess sugars and I left a third of a glass at the bar. Iím glad to see my tastes have improved. New score is composite.

I didnít think I would ever find a better IPA than Bells two hearted but this might be it. Incredibly smooth despite the 9.0 abv. hoppy but not too hoppy despite being a double ipa. itís expensive but great.

4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Great flavor. Really well balanced IPA with a nice malty character to it. Hops donít overwhelm the sweetness. A must try for anyone new to craft beer.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle picked up at GBBF. Pours a clear amber with a white head. Sweet aroma with caramel, light candy and a hint of orange. Medium body, medium carbonation. Quite sticky initially with light toffee and some booze coming through, but then it gets drier with woody resin, light banana, toast, pine, lemon... Thereís orange marmalade too - actually quantro. Good, decent balance, not too sweet, with a nice woody grapefruit bitter finish. Tasty.

4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
A supremely complex and tasty beer that is both well balanced and (at 9%) powerful to boot. The aroma, while pleasant and rather floral/fruity, is not nearly as outstanding or fragrant as certain other ipaís. Despite the somewhat demure aroma, this beer is bursting with flavor and is easily one of the best beers Iíve ever tasted. Itís strong, sweet malt backbone is complemented by a mildly bitter hop presence and subtle hints of raisin and caramel. It should also should be noted that this beer also provides a nice warming, almost spicy effect similar to that of harder alcohol . This likely has to do with the relatively high yet well masked 9% abv.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
BOD 4/16/14. Clear light amber pour with a touch of ruby. Massive head that retains and laces quite well. Complex nose of tropical, citrus and pine hops over a biscuit sweetness with a slight spicy note. Medium body, but on the higher end and quite smooth, with normal carbonation that imparts a bit of effervescence on the finish. The flavor profile is very complex, but yet well balanced with its 3 main components - hops, bitterness and sweetness. It begins with the hop flavors of the nose, transitions to a mild spicy bitterness and finishes with a smooth sweetness over an alcohol note. As it warms, the body approaches full with a nice oily texture and the alcohol more prevalent in the finish.
