Esquire Magazine calls our 90 Minute I.I.PA., "perhaps the best I.P.A. in America." An Imperial I.P.A. brewed to be savored from a snifter. A big beer with a great malt backbone that stands up to the extreme hopping rate. This beer is an excellent candidate for use with Randall The Enamel Animal! 90 ibu

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2007 Original rating: 8/11/05 - 7/3/9/4/18=4.1Clear yellow-orange pour, with an extremely creamy off-white head that laces fantastically. Medium-strong standard hops aroma, acerbic and cloying. Impressive! Flavor is so smooth and silky, with fantastic symmetry in the flavor profile and a complex blossom of hop and malt notes. Absolutely delicious, I wish I could drink this for days on end. Complex blend of cream, wheat, malt, brown sugar, grapefruit, floral, and light almonds. Palate is very sweet and sticky, making you want for more. Chewy, with a very strong texture. Fantastic. More drinkable than most IIPAs Iíve had. Rerate - 12 Oz Bottle - 6/3/6/2/13=3.0 What the hell was I thinking? This is terrible. Aroma is a stagnant cesspool of catty hop flesh and decaying ferns. There are some bright spots with a little candied resin. Pour is acceptable with a burnished gold afroth with white. Flavor is immediately sapifying. Theres too much sugar from the get go. Cats climb into bed with caramelized raisins. Lots of stinky residuals, greased with high gravity yeast by-products. Filtering removes probably any intrigue. Theres a creamy softness, likely derived only from excessive malt content. It doesnít approach the warm breadiness from hop construction in good examples. Palate is downright sticky. Theres a creeping ugly plant bitterness in the backend. Combine that quality with excess sugars and I left a third of a glass at the bar. Iím glad to see my tastes have improved. New score is composite.

"Perhaps the best I.P.A. in America" sayith Esquire, and since I drink this more often than any other beer I will have to concur with the great beer brain-trust of Esquire magazine. My favorite IPA with the bonus of being widely available!

Appearance: (poured into a tulip glass) pours a 2 finger pillowy head, nice lacing, slowly subsiding into a 1 finger head, body is a clear dark coppery amber with lively carbonation. Aroma: Fresh grass, malty hops, pine, resin, grapefruit, yeast, rich sweet honey, floral, citrus, bread, bready Palate: full bodied, thick, moderate carbonation, slightly chewy like yeasty bread. Taste: Malt, bread, caramel, grapefruit, black pepper ,mildly bitter finish with resins, pine, and, sweet honey Overall: Delicious, complex, malt heavy, honeyed, balanced, mildly bitter, the best beer Iíve had thus far.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into Spieglau IPA glass, thanks Shane! Light golden amber colour, everlasting white foam and lace. Extreme American hoppy aromas, but not severely grapefruity, more of a mild flowery, honey-like balance. Taste: malty, caramelly sweet, and VERY hoppy again, bitter but smoother than usual (apparently through their use of low-cohumulone hop varieties). Tangy hops-forward balance. Light-medium body, strong carbonation, lingering hoppy aftertastes.

A 1 oz sample poured at a tasting table. Pours a nice rich amber with an off-white head. Sometimes beers just defy description, this is one of those. An example of the style, yet like nothing Iíve tasted.

From a 4 pack of bottles poured into a snifter. Nice orange color with a thick white head and great lacing. First taste is smooth followed by slightly bitter. Good job of hiding the 9% ABV. First thing I have tried from Dogfish and have to admit I look forward to my next

I read the high praise of this beer a few months back and since then I have had it on my list. Well today I saw a 4-pack and it was cold. Poured it into my pint glass. Orange clear little foam, smells of hops. Itís really good, fruity at first, then bitter, spicy & some malty sweetness in the after taste (oh and itís 9%). Didnít find it to be as boozy as other raters, or the ABV might suggest, but the rapid buzz says itís strong all day long. The Dogfish Head brewery does a good job of making beer drinking fun!

(Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA) Bottle 355 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 9% Deep orange colour on the body, mostly clear, with a full finger of slightly off-white head. Thick and soapy, with very good retention, leaving heavy lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, biscuits, cookie dough, orange peel, light resin. Bitter taste that builds up, nothing too extreme though. Citrus, hops, nice fruitiness, biscuits, well hidden alcohol. Medium body, good carbonation, nice dry feeling on the palate. Very good and addictive.

Aroma contains malt sweetness, pine hops, yeast, honey and some alcohol, but not much. Looks great - copper colored, dark for an IPA with a large pillow of white foam. Too much foam for me, but otherwise striking. Taste is honey sweetness with hops taking over after that. The hops are very unique in this one - they are prevalent and pine flavored but not at all bitter. Honey and hops, simple but it works. ABV very well hidden. This is good but I thought it would be the best IPA I have ever had. Possibly top 10, worth trying but there are a lot of good IPAís out there.

Pours a slightly dark orange with a thin film of soapy head. Strong citrus and grapefruit notes. A very complex flavor, with some dark fruit sweetness and just a bite of the alcohol fading into a really nice hop bitter aftertaste. Iím amazed Iíve not rated this yet- itís rightfully one of the best out there.

Bright orange. Light head. Some light citrus notes. Herbal orange. Earthy stickiness.
