3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 25, 2007 Original rating: 8/11/05 - 7/3/9/4/18=4.1Clear yellow-orange pour, with an extremely creamy off-white head that laces fantastically. Medium-strong standard hops aroma, acerbic and cloying. Impressive! Flavor is so smooth and silky, with fantastic symmetry in the flavor profile and a complex blossom of hop and malt notes. Absolutely delicious, I wish I could drink this for days on end. Complex blend of cream, wheat, malt, brown sugar, grapefruit, floral, and light almonds. Palate is very sweet and sticky, making you want for more. Chewy, with a very strong texture. Fantastic. More drinkable than most IIPAs I’ve had.
Rerate - 12 Oz Bottle - 6/3/6/2/13=3.0 What the hell was I thinking? This is terrible. Aroma is a stagnant cesspool of catty hop flesh and decaying ferns. There are some bright spots with a little candied resin. Pour is acceptable with a burnished gold afroth with white. Flavor is immediately sapifying. Theres too much sugar from the get go. Cats climb into bed with caramelized raisins. Lots of stinky residuals, greased with high gravity yeast by-products. Filtering removes probably any intrigue. Theres a creamy softness, likely derived only from excessive malt content. It doesn’t approach the warm breadiness from hop construction in good examples. Palate is downright sticky. Theres a creeping ugly plant bitterness in the backend. Combine that quality with excess sugars and I left a third of a glass at the bar. I’m glad to see my tastes have improved. New score is composite.

4.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
The thing I was not ready for was the malts in this thing. Holy cow. Lots of carbonation. LOTS. Very attractive Amber color. Nice head retention. Sexy lacing. Smell is just of a hop-forward beer but the taste is where it stands out from the rest. Piney resin with a malty sweet, thick feel. Also a slow sipper for sure.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bière complexe avec une belle présence de sucre, de résine, de caramel, et d’épices. Peut-être trop sucré par contre. J’ai l’impression d’avoir dégusté un barley wine plus qu’une impériale IPA... bien.

Probably my favorite brew on the planet. Seriously. I try many others but always come home to Dogfish. Heading the Delaware is like a religious pilgrimage.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
The flavor is strong and the finish is smooth. All hop-heads need not apply as this is a great balanced beer with no hint of the 9% alcohol it delivers. Great aroma and a very strong, yet enjoyable beer. I can’t find anything I don’t like about it. The bitterness and high ABV are not that prominent. A few of these will really sneak up on you. A slow sipper for sure.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle (thanks martjoobolut). Clear dark amber color. Small size, beige head, stays as a ring. Sweet, fruity, malty, caramel, alcohol in aroma. Sweet, caramel, fruity in taste. Caramelly and malts and bit of burtness in aftertaste. Medium bitterness. Medium carbonation. Sweetness covers alcohol quite well, but can feel the heat. Drinkable brew.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 29, 2016 pours amber color, clear, almost brilliant, with very stable creamy yellowish off-white head. Aroma: malt aroma, which takes on candied fruitcake, supported with hop aroma, which takes on pine, citruses and some other fruits. Flavor is practically the same, with the same notes menitoned above, but with somehow disturbing honey like sweetness before finish. Finish is slightly bitter, dry. Bitterness lingers in aftertaste. Malt sweetness and moderate high hop bitterness are pretty well balanced. Body is medium, texture soft, carbonation is moderate medium.
