Amber color, bright, hazy. Fruity and sweet, almost a special Barley Wine, not the expected IIPA.
Beautiful copper-amber color, creamy head. Wonderful hop aroma. Explosive; I like it because the maltiness can somehow support the huge hopping. And the fruity character in the nose and palate. Excellent IIPA. Thanks Philippe (Bov) for sharing this bottle.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draft at the Euston Tap. Pours clear, shiney gold with a modest, tight, white head. Good and hoppy nose with pine and light fruits, along with tons of malt. Very sweet flavor with notes of caramel and honey, and plenty of bitterness, but not at all abrasive. Medium to full in body with average carbonation and a fairly resinous mouthfeel. Lightly warming on the finish with tons of sweetness, malty caramel and sugar, and plenty of lingering bitterness. Just great and super drinkable. Worth the reputation.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: AUG 18, 2008 Cask at GBBF 2005. My beer of the festival. Never had anything from Dogfish before, so I had no idea what I was letting myself in for. Slightly cloudy dark copper/orange colour. Slight herb on the intensely hoppy slightly metallic aroma. This is just a huge rollercoaster of a beer. Superb. Good citric lime flavour mixed in with the hoppy finish. I could still taste this in my mouth the day after (4.5)
Cask at GBBF 2006. The hop aroma is just so wonderful. Fresh hops, grapefruit and golden syrup flavours. (4.8)
Cask at GBBF 08. This is one of my favourites and I looked forward to it for 2 years, so I had it twice on the day it came on before it ran out. Just so drinkable for a 9% beer, it’s untrue. 4.6/5

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAY 9, 2008 Bottle at Københavnske Øldage. Clear, golden beer with a small, white head. Very hoppy nose, with lots of pine, and beef-stock. Stinging bitterness in the mouth, with pine and beef-stock as well. Long piney finish and full body. Even though it is a nice beer, and I really like hoppy beers, it feels too unbalanced. Rating: 7-4-7-4-14-3.6. (070511)
Rerated at home. Bottle. Clear, golden pour, with a dense, off-white head. Could wish for longer head retention. The initial aroma is very hoppy, with pine, resin, citrus, the usual stuff, then the malt comes forward, with meat-stock and sweetness, as well as a little alcohol touch. The flavor is quite intensely bitter, yet under heavy influence from the malt. Residual sugar, beef-stock, pine, resin, citrus and citrus peel, some caramel and a little alcohol giving it a warming mouthfeel. A full-bodied beer indeed, finishing mostly hoppy, but there’s a well pronounced sugary touch as well. Definately not so unbalanced as it felt the last time I had it. The beer is so hoppy it feels a little astringent in the mouth, but combined with the warming sensation from the alcohol, and all the lovely flavors, it is really nice. Come on mr. Calagione, let’s have this beer in Norway! And big thanks to the_epeeist for sending me this bottle. (070906)

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle on my balcony of the Shore Hotel, overlooking the Pacific, that was probably the highlight of this number acquired from Surf Liqour Santa Monica, 16/04/14.
Clear golden amber with a moderate off white head that retains well.
Nose is caramel malt, straw, bitter grapefruit, bitter orange.
Taste is caramel malt forward, orange pith, bitter citric tinges, straw, light grapefruit, pinch of spice.
Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close laced with hop bitterness.
OK DIPA but can’t see how this acquires such high scores. I’ve had this many times in the past prior to joining RB, including on tap at Rehoboth and remember it being far better than this, perhaps an old bottle?

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sehr würzig-malzig werdend, cremig, hefig frisch, aromatisch. Sehr gut!
