UPDATED: MAR 12, 2006 This has to be the most extreme IPA I have ever tasted, which was to be expected. But my overall expectations were way off. There was very little head, and what did exsist lasted only a few seconds then ran for the sides of my glass and hide there the rest of the session. A deep, hazy amber. The nose was strong of hops and hops alone. The taste is brutally hopped, but right when you are about to curse the heavy hand of the hop tosser... the malts come around and save the day. You are still left with the pine-citrus linger, which is plesent, but not extra-ordinary. I suspect much time went into balancing such a big beer. I like IPA’s this one was just a little over the top for me. ~--~ Re- Rate! 3/12/06 bottle ~--~ Well apparently more carbonated this time. Aroma is good but really just like smelling a hop bag. This is thick and surupy?... Thick. Oh, and strong by the way. Two glasses and a fine buzz, check!, Yes Sir! Good and pure. Would I change my previous rating? No... & thats saying something since this was one of my first IIPA... SOLID.

pours amber color, clear, almost brilliant, with very stable creamy yellowish off-white head. Aroma: malt aroma, which takes on candied fruitcake, supported with hop aroma, which takes on pine, citruses and some other fruits. Flavor is practically the same, with the same notes menitoned above, but with somehow disturbing honey like sweetness before finish. Finish is slightly bitter, dry. Bitterness lingers in aftertaste. Malt sweetness and moderate high hop bitterness are pretty well balanced. Body is medium, texture soft, carbonation is moderate medium.

Malty, caramel, sweetish, grapefruit, resin, alcohol, Amber colour, medium white head, lacing. Noticably sweet, big bite, ABV evident, malt forward, lots of hops, but somewhat subdued. Fullbodied, soft carbonation, bitter finish.

fuzzcro (179) - Illinois, USA - MAY 20, 2016
Nice tan head that lingers providing lacing but not excess carbonation. Color is a rich amber. Pleasant aroma. High ABV yet easy drinking...palate pleasing. At first I got bitter though not lingering and since I am a IPA newbie...it just might be that I don’t identify the hops flavor accurately just yet.

I do not know how I have gone so long without trying this beer. Dark copper color and lacing foam in my snifter. Big hop aroma, some honey in the aroma as well. I feel a mild hop burn, and I would have guessed the IBUs were higher than 90. Flavor is balanced. Sweet malt flavor and strong hop character of dry hops. Alcohol is noticeable in the flavor and the palate, just a little bit hot.
