WeeHeavySD (1711), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Aug 25, 2006 Updated: Aug 18, 2008 I love this ale it is one of my favorite imperial IPA, I’ve had it in bottle and draft many times, both at the brew house in Gaithersburg Maryland. This beer is fantastically complex sweet and potent. I cannot find a flaw in this robust beautifully produced and always fun to consume brew. If you have the opportunity to try this beer, do it. It is refreshing and drinkable and goes down smooth.
NextBestThing (15), Westtown, New York, USA Sep 6, 2008 Be careful with this one. I have had two different bottles from the same four pack which were completely different beers. If you get one that’s the way it’s supposed to be, it’s a hoppy IPA that’s simultaneously completely drinkable, more subtle than a Ruination even. If you get a bad one, it’s a Dunkin’ Donuts regular with cream & no sugar. Difficult beer to rate due to the inconsistency. My personal opinion is that it’s Dogfish Head’s best when it’s on. Citrus hops with a strong malt backbone almost every time. I recommend, but recommend with the caveat that you’re purchasing an inconsistent product. MaltDawg (293), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 6, 2008 Capital Ale House Downtown 08/24/2008. Nice flora orange/citrus hop nose. Clear orange/amber with small fine white head. Rich malt background supports robust floral citrus American hop flavors. Medium body with full mouthfeel but residual bitterness leads to a dry finish. Fantastic beer.
ogivlado (2334), Zagreb, Croatia Sep 6, 2008 Bottled(355ml). -Clear amber coloured, medium sized off-white head, flowery hoppy nose. Cytrusy hoppy, light grassy and fruity with mild notes of caramel and honey. Alcohol well hidden. Hoppy bitterness in the finish. Very good IPA. paiste2002 (25), Saugus, California, USA Sep 5, 2008 Bottled 4/1/2008 from bottle neck. Pours a very nice copper color with a nice white head tapering off into some very nice lace work. Aroma is hoppy, citrus, caramel, malt, not quite as big an aroma as I had expected from this big brew? Flavor is caramel, malt, spicy, citrus, hops, the mouth feel is very nice. The 9% alcohol is hidding waiting for this one to warm up a touch. Long bitter hoppy finish. This is a really nice beer but I think this one does not live up to the hype! I always have this feeling going into these things that somehow it wont live up to the hype, very few do. musher (5), Delaware, Ohio, USA does not count Sep 5, 2008 The only dogfish head worth drinking in my opinion. Standard hop aroma. Somewhat one dimensional. Overly sweet in my opinion. Taste is good if you can get past the sweetness. Palate is too heavy. One of these is almost too much unless you have a serious sweet tooth. Go for the Green Flash if you want an Imperial IPA.
