4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
I saw the blurb and I thought "Mere puffery sprinkled liberally with bollocks." and then I sampled:
Appears amber with a marshmallowy creamy white head that left good lace. I certainly did not expect the cake-like aromas that I got when I stuck my (sizeable) nose over the glass and snorted. Like sniffy sherry cask finished whisky along with mandarin, tangelo, cut spruce logs and green cones. Some fresh alcohols, but the predominance is toward glace citrus peel and all sorts of lovely rich dessert. The flavour was another leap altogether. Creamy oranges and green grasses matched with persistent sherbet carbonation and a silky body. It is unctuous and viscous and gives a good whack of bitterness. The finish is enduring and brings out fruit salad laced liberally with golden rum, lychee and creamy orange.
I loved everything about this beer except the emptiness of the bottle. Do I agree with the labelling? Not entirely as I think the Sauvignon Blanc comparison is off (I live near Marlborough and Sav is too light, too fresh). More like Viognier with its tropical fruit and nectarine, which is also present in the finish.
Just a remarkable, remarkable beer.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Probada draft en Barcade Chelsea. Imperial IPA que deja un sabor en el paladar solo comparable con probar un pedazo de cielo.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
9% ABV. Imperial IPA.
Poured of the bottle a deep rich amber, 16-18ºSRM.
Nose was full of fresh roasted malty flavors. Sweet but not cloying. Not much in the nose to suggest that this is an IPA.
Heavy soapy, syrupy mouthfeel, this is an homage to the very best quality barley malt that started this whole brew. All that sugar contributed to the robustly alcoholic palate that is gradually scrubbed off by progressively bitter herbaceous and eventually almost bright citrus hops. Finishes with a palate that is like sweet tangerine peel. Sweet and bitter at the same time, like getting French-kissed and then bitten on the lip. Perfectly balanced. Again, the fact that this is an IPA slowly reveals itself in a most engagingly intriguing and painfully teasing fashion. A artfully choreographed brewing striptease.
A wondrous effort by the fine folks at Doghead Fish.
Goes on Favorites List big time (top 10) although the one that I had wasn’t perfectly fresh!!!

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
I don’t know if there’s a protocol that says, don’t review the style, review the beer, but I gave this one a shot not realizing that it’s a barley wine (or very close to one) a style I can’t tolerate. Too malty, too sweet, too hoppy, too strong, too winey (port or sherry), too over the top, too unrelated to what I actually like, i.e., beer. I like the DH 60 minute, I like strong IPA’s (Southern Tiers 2X, Lagunitas Maximus and so on) but really cannot handle this overcooked beer soup.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Hard to find fault with this one. Stronger tasting than I usually like but in a good way. One my favourites list for sure!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Let’s start with the easy bit. It looks like a DIPA: rusty orange, white head, good lacing. Full bodied. Powerful and boozy. Now the trickier bit. This is a very different IPA. It’s like the last two thirds of a "normal IPA", with the caramel malt and bitter finish, but no fruit bomb at the start. It’s malty enough to be a Belgian strong ale, but without the spicy yeast. Deep and dark enough to be an old ale, but not quite complex enough. Just a little citrus nip at the end to remind you what it is.

Great appearance and decent mouthfeel.
Not sure this beer is a 100 beer though.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Great nose of everything you want in IPA, fruity citrus pine grass all above yum. Flavor of same just palate is a tad sweet. A little too much caramelize for me. Not bad but just keeps it from a five score.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Appearance is a clear deep orange in color, a large amount of very light tan head. Aroma is a sweet, syrupy, light hops aroma. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly boozy pine-citrus hops. Palate is medium. Overall, quite the powerhouse. Boozy but not too boozy.
