COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
More than 1,500 loyal fans of the brewery and band suggested an ingredient idea and the Dead-inspired story behind it. Our favorite was granola, from California Dead Head and craft beer lover Thomas Butler. “The components of granola – honey, toasted grains, oats and fruit – offer a lot from a beer perspective,” says Thomas, a chemist by day, homebrewer by night. “The idea is to have a bold pale ale that highlights the oats and honey with a nice ‘dank’ hop selection.” American Beauty is brewed with all-American malts and hops, granola and little bit of soul. It’s malty with a big hop kick, and notes of toasted almond and honey round out the flavor profile and balance out the hop bitterness.

A heavy bronze color in the snifter, American Beauty shines a bright medium orange in the light, letting it in but not through to remain completely opaque. The head, barely off-white, seems to never fall past the creamy, heavy full finger it begins with. Extremely creamy webbing to nearly the bottom of the glass proceeds from a thick ring at the top. The smell is sweet and fruity up front, lots of jammy berry with an earthy tone and leafy hops adding balance. A little bit of a honey note accentuates the sweetness, with nut giving some more depth. The berries and earth are first on the tongue. While I wasn't sure going in how I felt about granola in a beer, in the middle it tastes like I'm crunching on it and it works here. Leaf and flora add a light bitterness to balance, and I find lots of nuttiness in the finish. Overall, it's really juicy and fresh, and I really like it. There's complexity, layers to discover and lots of flavor overall. The ratings seem a little low, but it's subjective to a point. It's lightly crisp all the way through. The body is medium and there's a flowing creaminess on the tongue. Neither the crispness nor the smoothness ever waver. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On the First Day of Christmas 2014 the beer gods gave to me... An American Beauty, literally. Pours a copper orange color with an off white foam head. A very complex aroma for an IPA. Aroma of caramel, citrus and earthiness, with hints of honey and berry. The taste matches the name. It’s simply beautiful. It starts like a frothy, citrusy IPA before the fun begins. Then as you get hit with the hops, it opens up with honey and sweet berry notes, made more luscious and delicate by the body. This was one I was hoping they’d make a second run of as I missed the first. I am glad to not have missed out.

750 ml Bottle. Poured clear, copper, nice off white head that dissipated quickly, no head on the glass. Aroma of malts, caramel, some honey and some hoppy floral notes. Taste is sweet, malts, lots of honey, bitter towards the end. Great beer, quite enjoyable.

Shared at the BFD Christmas Party, thanks to who ever brought it. Earthy pine hops, lots of sweet malt with an overbearing honey flavor and sweetness. Nice to try but I wouldn’t seek it out again.

Poured a 1 oz sample at a tasting table. Smell is a sweet, vanilla with plenty of esters. Flavor is a robust sweet, caramel almond, with a nice floral balance and good alcohol. Mouthfeel is a big round with a full finish.

750ml bottle fro Fischer Blvd. Poured a clear good looking honey brown with a smaller to average sized foamy off white head. Aroma is perfumey, alcohol, wet hops, sweetness, dry wood. Flavor of dry citrus rind, honey comb, wort, honey topped bread, floral hops. Good stuff.

750ml bottle. Poured a clear amber orange color with a two finger thick off-white head which slowly fades leaving splotches of lace. Aroma is grainy malts, citrus pith, honey, graham crackers, and floral/herbal notes. More pronounced aromatics on warming. Taste is citrusy hops that are fairly mild, mostly grainy malts. ABV noticeable. Has a lot of sweet oats in there too. Medium body and medium carbonation. Finishes dry, creamy and smooth.
